i was never a huge fan of shop etc...

Hearst Magazines will close its newest launches Shop, Etc. and Weekend magazines. A spokeswoman for the company confirmed the move.

"Unfortunately, because the performance metrics we set for new magazines were not achieved, and because of the challenging economy, tough newsstand environment, and rising paper and postal costs, two magazines will be discontinued: SHOP Etc. (after its October issue) and Weekend (after its September issue)," said the company in a statement.

Shop, Etc. launched two years ago to take on shopping pioneer Lucky, but could never finds its place among other fashion and shopping competitors. The ten times annual title tweaked the editorial formula several times to gain more traction among readers and advertisers.

Weekend, a lifestyle magazine geared towards leisure activities, launched last June. The company planned to publish five issues this year, and guarantee a circulation of 300,000.

thanks for the info kimair...

I thought that the problem with Shop Etc. was that they weren't focused like Lucky ... they tried to cover all bases, and ended up covering none well ...

When I first heard about Lucky, I didn't like the concept (as it was described--badly :p), but today I'm a subscriber ;)

I'm not a big father of either Shop Etc. OR Lucky (though I subscribe to the latter...)... these magazines are geared toward shopping and spending, obviously, and it's not as fun for me... give me Vogue any though! Though, really, magazines ARE all about advertising. I know.

^ If you ask me, Bazaar is even more about shopping than Lucky is ;) I use magazines to help me shop by proxy, and I find that Lucky does do its job in helping me spot a few interesting pieces I don't see elsewhere (of course, then I sometimes find they were never produced). They do have a number of features that don't do much for me ... like when they haul the rack of clothes out to the street and have people put wrinkled outfits together  ... But they do also have some interesting analysis that's different from what you see anywhere else.
