he created a scent - limited edition, as they always are - which dd not smell of anything AT all !!!.......not the cologne for me or women......not the cuiron either....it was a limited edition nonscent.....

how did he get away with that ..??....was i the only sucker to have bought that scent..??
Are you talking about the $150~ Velvonia (sp)? That stuff was wierd, it didn't smell at all until I wore it for about an hour or so, I think my body's oil & persperation activated it, I can't say for sure. Weird and beautiful.

And yes, I miss Helmut a lot too

I have heard that too. That's art for art:-) Andrew, is Velvonia a musky scent? Musc can smells very very "nothing" but warmed up with one's own scent can produce a great, individualistic and sensual smell. And, smelling nothing *is* really really unique:-)

I wear Cuiron almost every day - love it!

I was reminded of this in the Cerruti thread, but does anyone have news on what he's been up to? I heard he had already hired a team, that was a year ago.

I've wondered the same thing. He's really dropped out of sight. You'd think if he were planning something, there'd be some news, sort of like Tom Ford. His line hasn't actually been introduced yet but there have been reports of his sighing production contracts (Zegna), contractors for the boutiques, etc. But, from Helmut... nothing. I hope he's just being secretive. I'd hate to hear that he's just been sunning himself in Biarritz for the past year.

Something is brewing and it's top secret. But it's brewing, for sure.

Helmut Lang Speaks, or at Least Draws and Defines
Godfrey Deeny

Helmut Lang, the recent great recluse of fashion, has finally made something of a statement, even if it’s a largely visual one.

Lang contributed a 10-page story to the latest edition of hipster Berlin fashion magazine Achtung, which hits newsstands this week.

Entitled “Helmut Lang Excerpts from the Long Island Diaries”; the article is about one of Lang’s pet obsessions, German and Austrian noble family crests.

The designer has an avid collection the seals of noble Teutonic houses, and these form the basis of the feature. Everyone from Von Uslar, whose scion Moritz is German’s hottest young journalist, to Von Clausewitz - historians among you will be familiar with his famous dictum on war, that it was the extension of politics by other means.

“I am not sure what to make of this,” confesses Achtung Editor-in-Chief Markus Ebner. “But I love its ambiguity and the way it looks.”

Though a modernist revolutionary designer, Lang was always noted for his adherence to traditionalist gentlemanly etiquette. In this rare pronouncement since his 2004 resignation from the fashion house he created, Lang drummed up a didactic text that is essentially a series of dictionary definitions of hierarchy.

The designer begins his intro with the meaning of pecking order. For the record it’s “a hierarchy of status among members of a group of people or animals, originally observed among hens.” Quand meme.

He then lists ten connotations for order and ends humorously with the gist of count, “For the Muppet character, see Count von Count.”

Lang sent the mag some rough mechanical sketches of his own arcane sense of hierarchy and several grey background photos of the red noble seals.

Even by the standards of emigre politics and habitudes, his is a novel exile by any standards. Then again, so was his fashion.

He also has a oddly explicit set of 'self portraits' in Butt Magazine...I wonder what's coming

oh--
how odd and intriguing...
i want VISUALS!!!...:woot:...

BUTT RIGHT IN: Helmut Lang is causing a stir in Europe — but because of nudity, not clothing. The idled fashion designer, whose eponymous brand is now owned by Link Theory and designed by the former Habitual team, is the focus of an eye-popping seven-page portfolio in the current issue of the Dutch quarterly Butt, which trumpets itself as a "fantastic magazine for homosexuals."

The spread opens with a waist-down "self-portrait" of Lang wearing flimsy (to say the least) white gym shorts, followed by multiple snapshots he took of his feet propped up against cropped photos of men not wearing shorts of any kind. There's also a brief Q&A in which the designer responds to such questions as: "If you could design your own genitals, what would they look like?" His reply? "I have no need to redesign." According to the article, Lang took the series of photos for Butt at his farm on Long Island, N.Y. He said of the foot photos: "I don't particularly like my feet, so I felt they needed some serious backdrop."

But Butt isn't Lang's only newsstand appearance this fall. The designer also has a 10-page portfolio in German fashion magazine Achtung's latest issue — albeit without any flesh. The cryptic contribution shows arrangements of red wax seals on blue paper and hand-drawn charts juxtaposed against dictionary definitions of such words as pecking order, aristocratic and accountant. What does it all mean? "I don't know," confessed Achtung founder and chief editor Markus Ebner. "It's crests from famous German and Austrian aristocratic families. I find it sort of beautiful the way it colors the pages."

A spokesman for Lang said the magazine submissions are part of an ongoing project titled "Long Island Diaries" containing assorted records "without the usual and conventional dynamics of diaries." An excerpt was published in the French fashion magazine Self Service earlier this year with this oblique explanation from Lang: "I am against putting myself in a situation of defining what I am doing right now because it would not allow an organic outcome." The spokesman added that Lang does not plan to work in fashion "in the traditional sense, but part of his fashion DNA could be translated into his ongoing projects." These include Lang's "Selective Memory Series," a compilation of "written material, notes, documents, visuals and records of events since 1986," excerpts of which will soon be published, he added.

Hmmm I couldn't find any visuals :judge: ...

I want visuals to! :p ...

I'll anxiously be awaiting my BUTT subscription when it comes in the mail.

Oh dear. Please do not tell me that a spread in Butt magazine is what we've been waiting for after all that secrecy.

A "self-portrait" of Helmut Lang in Butt magazine.

I guess this is that "flimsy white gym shorts."
