Couldn't find a thread about him... so I made one!

Swedish fashion/beauty/comerical-photographer, became very popular in the late 90s, also was DoP in some of director Jonas Åkerlund musicvideos (such as Madonnas Ray of light).

(lundlund.se)

His website: www.henrikhalvarsson.com

What do you think about him? How would you describe his style?

I'd say from these images ... he's very surreal ... almost like Salvador Dali and the like. They certainly draw you in and make you llok twice ... very cool. Then looking at his site ... I see some things that are more commercial mixed in ... but it's always is bold and graphic. I like this guy!

I am working on a documentry about him, and at the moment (when his abroad on shoot and I cant do any interviews) I ask people what they can tell about him only by looking at his pictures.
I recently was on a photofair in Stockholm, talking with ppl and showing his pictures...
almost everyone guesses that he was a young woman!

what would you say?

based on the photos on his website as well there is a definite quirkiness to some of his work..

after seeing the website i find it odd that people would think he is a young woman--from what i saw on there i thought there was a definite masculine point of view..

some pics were of a very sexual nature that i just couldn't imagine coming from a woman..

I agree ... I thought he was a man, went to the site ... then thought for a minute his name was feminine (I misready the link) and thought it odd. So I looked again and re-confirmed that it was a man.

I visulize a middle aged plump man with dark glasses ... but then so many photographers look like that, so I'm sure that is what is influencing me .... not his work. Definitely European ... bacause of the nudity and the edgy style. But then Terry Richardson does edgy and weird nudes too ... and he's American. So I"m thinking it's the higher production values combined with the edgy style that makes me think Euro.
