I'm surprised to not find a thread on them. Is there something wrong with them? ^_^

I use them, but not sure about the effects.

I'm kind of curious because today I put some in my hair cold when it was dry. It seemed to tame it a bit. But I don't know if this has any long-lasting effects. Is this useful? Anyone else tried it?

Hot oil treatments are a bit of a misnomer: they usually don't have much oil in them and they don't have to be used hot. We wrote a post on Hot Oil formulas recently if you want to check it out.

Thanks! I've been using it for years because of my mother and never really thought to question it. Maybe I'll just give up, I usually still feel pretty dry afterward.

I dont remember the reason, but my hairdresser told me to steer away from hot oil treatments...i think its cos they just coat the hair instead of healing it (ok, i dont know, im just making things up)

It really depends on what kind of hot oil treatment it is. Most of the hot oil products you buy in the store don't really have any "oil" in them at all. They have the same kind of ingredients in regular conditioners (mostly water & water-based conditioning ingredients). These products do not coat the hair. If, on the other hand, the hot oil treatment actually is based on oil (e.g. water is not the first ingredients) then there could be a problem with coating the hair.
