I've seen ALOT of ppl in my school turning their collars up this year. In certain magazine they are empahsizing this as a 'trend'. even though i've always seen certain ppl wear it turned up all fo a sudden everyone seems to be doing it. so i wanna know what you guys think abotu this, how do you wear your collars-up or down? i see some ppl do it with button down shirts but it just doesn't look so good. some ppl think it gives them this air of being more elite than everyone else and flaunts their status. so do you agree

No, it makes you look like Count Dracula on a bad hair day.

there are collars that lloo good up and collars that don't ...and there is also a good way to flip your collar and a bad way...when it's too stiff and stands conpletely away from your neck...then prince's reference to the count is pretty accurate..

what you want to do is flip it up close to your neck and all the way up in back...while slightly curving it away from your face as you come around front...the idea is to frame your face...that can be quite cool and flattering...it's all in the wrist...with a bit of thumb action... :P

i always flip the collar on my denim jkt and some shrunken blazers and lthr jackets...

David Bowie style :mohawk:

What did I tell you about wearing your collars up

I wear it DOWN. It would bunch up my hair otherwise, and I think it looks very sloppy and dorky to have it up...like you just tugged on a shirt and didn't check in the mirror to be sure you had it on the right way around.

i kind of like that...like you just got caught having sex or something and had to throw your clothes on quickly...but i like that bedhead hair too... :innocent: :ninja:

I have two words for you all:

Katherine Hepburn.

(In case that doesn't translate, it's a strong vote towards UP!)

Like Softgrey said, it depends on the collar. Ditto on her entire post. Although, I tend to prefer mine down, cause I'm getting a bit tired of seeing everyone with theirs up.

i too agree with softgrey. i also love wearing my collar up. what i don't like is that right now it's a trend and everyone is doing it. that will go away and the ppl who would naturally do it and could naturally pull it off will still be wearing it. it just seems like you have to have some umph of your very own to pull it off. i imagine softgrey looks great with this style.

It totally depends on what your wearing... I flip my school shirt up, in an effort to turn that piece of sh*t into something half decent... haha and agreeing with softgrey that there are collars that look good up and collars that don't...

I suppose you are talking about polo shirts? It was a preppy thing that since we are in the midst of this preppy revival became popular.

Take a look at the amount of pink shirts.

Upturned collars are only appropriate for some people. Others just cannot do it. Also it's vastly preferred for coats, and jackets.

knowing the motivation behind why many ppl are doing the popping thing...that whole air of status thing...i despise it.

i always used to do it & still do it.
only w/certain blazers/polos&jackets.

I have been flipping up a lot lately... not always though. Just whenever I feel like a change. I think it's kinda cool, but no doubt we will all be VERY sick of it once it "catches on".

I hate this. I hate it I hate it I hate it. It's preppy with an extreme sense of, "I rule the room" but without it being something cool/unique. Collars all over my school are popping up, which wasn't that difficult because everyone was already wearing polo shirts to begin with. My brother has started to do it and I just hate it. He left our preppy town for college and became more preppy than he already was--ew. :yuk:

I hate this look on polo shirts, although I have seen a few people put up their jacket collars and look good (just not at my school). I think it's better to do it that way, especially if your style is not preppy.
