How to Deal with PMS ?

Yeah i never get cramps and don't really breakout. However i cry at the smallest things around that time

well, the thing is that last night i started crying cos my sister woudn't let me play with her new celular... so i had to start this thread^_^

advil doesn't work for me...
also, does any of u during the PMS have headaches and toothache? cos i do... and i am always hot, even when it's winter...
i hate being a girl at the moment...

I don't have headaches or toothaches, but I have pain in my stomach and back, I cry at everything, I get nauseated (once actually threw up), dizzy, either lose my appetite completely or feel like eating all the time, I feel weak, have hot flushes and insomnia. I think that's everything, but the sick feeling, dizziness and weakness has almost entirely disappeared since going on the pill.

I never actually started getting cramps till about 6 months ago. Now i get crams on the second day, but nothing too severe that advil cant take care of. I do start breaking out though. And i dont know if anyone else goes through this....but my breasts start getting realllllly sore and swell up about 4 days before my period. It's almost like my own personal warning sign that my period is on the way:shock:. I use to complain about it alot, but then I started working with this girl at work and when she is pmsing, her cramps are BAD. I mean she cant even stand up. She says she cant even sleep with the cramps, and that she usually curls up on the floor because the pain is too much to bear. She went to the doctor many times, but they said that there is really nothing wrong with her. She says her mother and her sister go through the same thing too. I feel really bad for her at work, cuz my boss is very strict and will never let her go home early or even take a sick day off, so she usually has to stay and work. I seen her cry so much because of the pain, and sometimes she holds her stomach and she starts shaking. It's really sad. :(

^I've had cramps that bad when I was a teenager. Doubling over in pain ones. Ibuprofen really helps as a quick fix. Prostaglandins manufactured by the uterus cause the cramping, and ibuprofen knocks them out. It's best to take it at the first signs of PMS rather than when the cramps are full-blown.

Hot water bottles applied to the abdomen are good, too.

For a more long-term, holistic solution to PMS, I recommend traditional Chinese medicine. In its view, the organ system of the Liver controls the flow of blood and emotions in the body. PMS is seen as symptomatic of congested liver qi, and specific herbs, food, and acupuncture is advised.

I take the patent formula Jia Wei Xiao Yao Wan for at least three weeks a month. I stop when I am on my period. Jia Wei Xiao Yao Wan builds blood, moves stuck qi, helps with bloat and breast-tenderness, and clears heat--which is considered the root of anger and irritability.

There's another classic formula, the basic Xiao Yao Wan, which doesn't contain the two extra heat-clearing herbs (gardenia and tree peony) for symptoms of anger. These herbs are meant to be taken long-term, and have at least a 6,000 year history of safe use.

I was also told to avoid sweets, alcohol, fatty and spicy foods. I can't always afford acupuncture, but the herbal pills are cheap and readily available.

Mild exercise is actually a fantastic way of relieving cramps; if you can force yourself to get out of bed and move around, that is. ;)
I tend to just take walks, drink loads of water, (maybe that's more of a compulsive thing than a PMS thing.....), and try to stay positive!

If cramps are nasty at night, I'll take one Tylenol so I can get to sleep, but that's it. No chocolate, no heating blankets.......

Geez. Do I sound like PMS Bootcamp or what? :P

I'm glad I only have have 3-4 periods a year. My boobs get huge for about 4 days before, during, and 4 days after which I hate. excercising helps cramps tho.

A week before my mood changes a bit but I'd like to think that I don't become a raging maniac. I get terrible TERRIBLE cramps that I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. I cant keep any of my food down for the entire first day. Ibuprofen helps but I try not to take too much as it can hurt my stomach. Hot water bottles help..and anything heated really. Not that it helps but I also eat lots of spicy food, chocolate and Oreos:blush:

oh chocolate... it really helps me... and cheese... i take ibuprofen too, and it helps, but only if i take large dose.
and what is that hot watter???
i mean, what do u do with it?
my dog likes to lay on my stomach when i am in pains, that is cute.... did u know that the dogs also have PMS, and cramps? my alisa sits in the closet, and when she gets her period she vomits for 2 days. but i cannot help her. i mean, i put some scarf around her to keep her warm, but it doesn't help.
and, i am off topic again...
i am off. i am talking about dogs and PMS....

dogs have pms too? I never even thought about pms in animals since my cat is spayed but I guess it makes sence. Does she bleed all over the house?

nope... they clean themselves... first time we made her wear panties, but she ripped them. sometimes she leaves marks on sheets, cos she sleeps on the bed, but i have no problems cleaning after her.
she likes to be in the dark during her pms,and she needs more attention. and since dogs have 2 periods per year, pms lasts for weeks, just like her period.

p.s. i need to spend more time with people!!!

How Do You Deal With PMS?

I used to have really horrid PMS issue. In the beginning I would be very sensitive about the smallest things. Through out that week my breasts would become tender, then the water retention, bloating, and the cramping. Then this MONSTER came out of nowhere! People around me thought I was CRAZY! I was fed up with it! I eventually went to my physician (he's so great), instead of easly writing up a prescription he gave me a name of a nutritionist (Patti) She educated me about the nature, the negative and positive causes our foods we eat have on our body. First she made me list foods that I normally ate. High in fats, high in sodium, sugary drinks, sugar, sugar, sugar, and hardly any vegetables. I really had no clue that I was eating so much JUNK til I saw that list. For some time now I have been eating a very vegetarian diet, eating more servings of whole grains, drinking lots of warm water , yes, I said warm! I drink Chai (with no cream and sugar) three times a day as well. Chai and Black Tea seem to help me reduce water retention and bloating. Oh! And lots of sleep. I make sure I get 8 hours of sleep (or) more on the weekends if I'm not doing anything special. I ride my bike to work, I walk to the grocery store, I walk pretty much everywhere in the city where I live. (everything is so close to my house) I take into account that I do walk a lot so I see that to be exercise for me and I believe that helps.

All in all, I kicked a lot of processed sugar out in my diet and adding more fruits and veggies. I truely believe eating properly and doing some sort of physical activity can help to reduce PMS. (I do sometimes pop couple of Ibuprofen for cramps). It's not just about your diet. You should take other things into account. Are you a smoker, drink a lot of alcohol or on any type of medication? Anyways, that's my story. :flower:

Warm/hot water in a bottle used the same way you would use a heating pad. You can place it on your stomach or on your back and the heat helps relieve the pain.

so that means my doggy gets periods too?
i never really thought of it, though my best friend's dog did used to wear diaper things when she had hers.
my dog must be clean though, since ive never seen any blood.
