I know posing isn't exactly relevant to clothes and fashion, but I always think that the way a celebrity poses on the red carpet can help/ruin a look.
Some of my favourite 'posers' in Hollywood:
One leg behind the other. Carey Mulligan's favourite. Not one to pose with one hand on the hip, Mulligan goes for a healthier alternative. It's quite a unique pose in Hollywood. Not many other actresses do it. I love it because unlike the way her fellow Hollywood peers decide to pose, this one doesn't seem forced. It seems just right for her.
The 'natural pose' pose perfected by Natalie Portman. Portman is interesting. She strikes me as someone who doesn't know how the hell how to pose on the red carpet so she just ends up going for something effortless. She sometimes holds her clutch awkwardly to her hip and I find that endearing. The kind of pose that doesn't make her look like a fool, essentially. Like Mulligan's pose, it doesn't feel forced. Michelle Williams does the same, but for some reason she tends to never carry a clutch so she ends up looking lost! See here:
The 'I am actually effortless' pose:
This is called 'the bent knee'. It's kind of a coy pose. She wants us to be believe it's natural but she really is posing for the cameras. Diane Kruger loves to do this when she wears short dresses. It really help emphasises the look she is wearing. It makes her look statuesque. Being a former model, it certainly she shock me that she shows these b*tches how it's done!
Worst:
The awkward 'I really don't want to put my hand on the hip but I'm being forced to' pose. Maggie Gyllenhaal would be better off putting that hand down. She'd look less awkward.
The 'I am constipated please help me' pose that Jennifer Lopez knows and loves. Need I say more?
The infamous 'pageant pose'. Put the hands down, Lively. You ain't Abigail Breslin.
