The crossed leg is nothing new. It's literally been around for years - I'm guessing because like having one leg slightly forward - it draws you in and elongates your frame. But there is so much more to posing than leg positioning - shoulders, arm angle, face angle, etc. I know because I'm terrible in photos and I try to take pointers from those who know what they're doing but it doesn't seem to work!
Evan Rachel Wood's favorite pose appears to be the "One foot forward" pose.
It's not bad, because it usually helps to elongate her frame and make her appear taller.
And she also likes to tilt one foot playfully to the side.
I know.
Although her poses are more 'annoying 14 year-old girl' for me.
Love this thread, great idea Lola!.. focusing on poses only makes you realise what a bad or experienced posers some are. I think it might be important to do what Nicole Kidman mentioned once, which is developing a special character to play in public appearances.. that's probably why her image there looks so carefully crafted without appearing contrived or just clueless.
I know she's a model and it's not entirely fair but for me Rosie Huntington-Whitely is putting everyone in Hollywood to shame right now.. she looks amazing on the red carpet and I'm not talking about faces or outfits (that helps) but her overall presence and confident way of posing.
Diane Kruger really rocks the contrapposto pose. It works so well on the red carpet. Kristen fails, sadly because she does the same pose but in a masculine way -Michelangelo's David as opposed to a Botticelli's Venus.
now that I think about it, I like the way Kirsten Dunst looks on the red carpet most of the time. it's this nice mix of awkwardness/humility (i don't like it when someone looks too comfortable....what's to be comfortable about with a million cameras and people screaming..) and confidence (at the same time you don't want to look like you're about to cry and run away!.)
Sofia Coppola strikes a similar balance between confidence and shyness.. and she has this serenity on the red carpet that i don't think i see with anyone else. it's as though she is so comfortable with who she is....and what she's wearing...without being at all arrogant or smug. i adore her. she always looks good.
^I love the way she uses her hands as an accessory, it´s much more interesting than hands on the sides or waist. A hell lot more graceful than Kristen Stewart´s fists LOL
I love Diane Kruger's pose and Jlo too, but I'll always
love Angelina's "I'm an amazon goddess pose".
It looks natural but unlike Portman or Keira there is ENERGY
behind it. She exudes power, sex and femininity.
She looks like a super hero lol
I love this thread idea! Reese Witherspoon's signature pose is the worst. It makes her look even shorter than she is, like she's been caught in the middle of an "I'm a little teapot" performance.
ETA: I've noticed Jessica Chastain doing the Rooney Mara 'hands' pose recently.
