Was wondering if this was a legendary thing--for an Asian model to be walking for Miuccia (like it was when Jourdan finally represented black models after Naomi), or if Asian models had walked before.

^you might say it could be a legendary thing. i'm sure maybe someone like ling tan could have walked for prada in the 90s, but i don't ever recall seeing any runway footage. hye did generate some buzz when she was girl 2 during the FW 05 show (it was sasha pivovarova's debut season also, and we all know her fortunate fate), but it obviously wasn't as huge as jourdan's big prada debut.

emma pei did walk miu miu for one season (last year i think), but that's about it for now.

Jenny Shimizu walked Prada in the 90's. And like 2 asian male models walked for Prada in the early 2000's, I believe??

I still think that the lack of Asian models on the runways is quite understated and unfortunate. Yes you see an asian model in every show but its usually one of the five same ones. Things like Du Juan walking for Versace aren't as high profile as things like Jourdan walking Prada.

I thought after Du Juan walked for Versace, Hye might her chance there but not to be. And in IMO it is just a big a deal as Jourdan for Prada

i agree it's horrible. not even in runway shows put in print as well. i was so surprised and happy, admittedly, when vogue korea did the all black issue last year. sure most of it was reprints but they did an ed with chanel which is fitting cause of her korean ancestry . but they didn't get nearly as much hype as vogue italia, which is a shame because asain magazines are about the only time we see a variety of asain models, and even then i would argue it's pretty scarce. i loved that vogue korea did that and that issue is right up there with the july 08 issue of vogue italia in my opinion.

now to bring it all back, i would argue that asain models are even more scarce on the runways than black models. for me at least, i can name a whole lot more black models than asian models, but maybe that's just me and what i'm familiar with. i totally agree there should be more.

also, it's a shame because even though jourdan is doing versace or prada, she's the only one to do versace and prada. so really, it's not even a big of a deal as most people make it. diversity doesn't begin with 1 person.

have you guys noticed in hye's cyworld that she posted pictures with solve? it's nice to finally see the photographer for once - and solve isn't a bad looking guy either. oh, and i love her pictures with stam and sasha at that vogue event in china.

i hope she will do runway this season. i'm sure she will...

I hope she will do Anna Sui, Alexander Wang, Marc and Derek Lam... Hye did these shows in many seasons, but now....
And I think that Narciso, Oscar and Behnaz love her so Hye appears in every season
