The first cover would have been a lovely shot for a "family" issue.
why?Pink Pantheress?! LOOOL I'm so embarrassed for this magazine.
Because it's trying so hard to be 'forward' talking about "New wave" like they're ahead of the curve or something, when all it is is just a print Instagram account tagging remotely famous people to make it look like they've 'discovered' something. Like seriously PINK PANTHERESS? She's a nondescript 'singer' who had one novelty hit and been flopping since. It's complete arbitrary.why?
Agreed. Think the fault is with the bosses who put a quite mediocre stylist Alistair McKimm as the Editor in chief. The guy is too empty for such a role. His styling alone is so hollow so why did they expect he can make the magazine into more than a kiss-*** ( for his own benefit) project. Sad…I remember buying i-D each month during my teenage years. I also remember the joy and excitement I got from seeing daring, talented artists on its covers. The magazine managed to cover music, fashion, film. The possibility of putting a celebrity's 10 year-old daughter on the cover just because of her status would have been out of the question. That's why I tend to reject this kind of vain glorification of people who have yet to grow up, learn about life and, hopefully, actually create something with a certain artistic value.
I have always loved Vanderperre's work. The cover is perfectly nice... and perfectly innocuous. I do feel for him when I see his talent being wasted on this kind of inane fluff-and-puff pieces.
According to The Cut, McKimm left i-D on good terms and might style shoots for the magazine in the future. There was no mention of a spring/summer 2024 issue. My bad, this is their last issue for now. There's bad blood between Karlie and Alastair?
