i-D Spring 2021 : The 'Utopia In Dystopia' Issue

Wow. Naomi's cover is great. She really looks in her element and this is different from the phoned in Naomi we are expected to get. I honestly didn't realize Kate. I thought she was some indie musician at first. No comment on Travis. Not sure why he scores covers. I mean I know why, but still.

Mika and Maty Fall, Kaia Gerber, Imman Hamman and various models wearing Prada are the other covers

I only saw the Travis Scott cover today. To be fair the content looked quite decent considering what we've been seeing from many magazines recently, but then again I hardly buy anything these days, and it's been well over a decade since I've bought i-D, just keeping it 100 :innocent:.

Anyway, from what I can remember there's:

- Imaan by Sorrenti/McKimm. Black and white studio story, very typical Mario for i-D. There's a shot of Imaan in that Noir dress that's everywhere and looks just like her shot from M Le Monde. She's interviewed by Tracee Ellis Ross.
- Kaia by Ghertner/McKimm. She's at the beach, but the vibe is quite similar to ZG's recent Self Service editorial. There seem to be loads of random quotes from Kaia on literature or what kind of novel she would write .
- Lots of girls and guys by McLellan/Nazario. Standard studio fare from Alasdair. I remember Maty, Quinn, Vilma and Mika S in the cast. The opening image of Maty is stunning.
- Prada edit by you know who (see above).
- A very long editorial by Stef Mitchell.

Just to give you an idea of what's in there :flower:.

Naomi's editorial is not bad but nothing spectacular I don't expect anything higher from her when it comes to printwork. But you know a conventionally pretty face often brings undeserved praise.

I haven't gotten i-D in so many years. I used to subscribe when I was a teenager and then I just didn't end up renewing it after 4 or 5 years for no real reason. Saw Naomi's cover on Instagram and just had to buy it - I love, love, LOVE that feeling with a magazine, it's so rare for me nowadays. It arrived this morning (a little scruffy at the corners unfortunately), and the cover is so fresh and beautiful, it's really lifted my spirits along with a beautiful sunny day. I can't wait to get stuck into it.

I didn't realise they're only doing 4 issues a year now, which is a shame in one way but in another it means the issue is so nice and THICK! I actually got a shock when I collected it from my post box because I just haven't picked up a heavy magazine in so long. UK Vogue always has a decent amount of pages, especially for a monthly, but it's been a while since I've bought a really substantial-feeling magazine. I guess it probably would used to have been LOVE, but I tapped out buying that after a while. It's sad in a way that monthly magazines are less common now, but honestly the collector in me is happy to have less to buy and if the trade off is decent sized issues then I'm happy!

I think I might start subscribing again, but then I liked choosing my own cover, so maybe I'll just keep ordering....even if it means the postage is a little more expensive. It's given me such a nice nostalgic feeling and is reminding me of why I fell in love with magazines in the first place. Looking forward to sitting in the afternoon sun and reading it through!

I'm the first one to rave about Kate Moss but that Naomi Campbell cover is breathtakingly beautiful. What a gorgeous, GORGEOUS editorial to accompany it too, utterly flawless and perfectly executed from all parties involved. I might just have to get myself a copy!

What did Max do with Kate? Put her in a T-shirt? Wow, what a styling effort. Same for the MUA, like, what? Put some moisturizer on her face?

How can you take effort with Naomi and no effort at all with Kate? I know that everyone will buy it anyways, because it is Kate that we all love, but come on, do at least something with her.

I guess the intention was to make her look cozy like we’ve never seen her. Usually her pics get tons of post-production, retouching and filters. Because let’s be honest she is looking quite bad for her age (and quite longtime now). Here they like to show her super basic like she never looks even being at home.
