Hi everyone, I have pretty oily skin, but even my OUTER EARS gush oil! Especially in the summer months. Is this a common problem or am I the only one who seems to have greasy ears?:cry::( I carry blotting pads in my purse, and wear my hair down, but eventually my hair becomes wet and oily as well! Does anyone think pro active solution might help? Is there any otc products other than noxema and oxy pads (Those make my ears gush even more oil) that might work?

erm can someone move this to the.. skin and hair care section ?

I think maybe you could try aspirin. I use em for my nose area and it really helps with the oil production there. What I do is take like 8-9 small aspirin pills and put them in equal amounts with water, let it dissolve for a minute or two, scrub them softly on my face and leave it there and wash it off when they dry in like half an hour or so. I have no idea if it would work for ears since I don't think it's a common problem but who knows.

wow you learn something everyday

Never heard of this problem before.
The Clinique bar soap says you can use it on your ears. It's supposed to get rid of the oil.
Does this help?

i think you just need to keep washing thoroughly. Maybe you should keep your hair away from your ears so that its not agrravating the problem.

Hmm I've never heard of this problem before...are you sure it's oil? Maybe it's really liquidy ear wax, I've seen a few people with this before. Try swabbing your ears with hydrogen peroxide and washing them in the shower (I scrub my ears with my hair when I'm shampooing :p ). If all else fails see a dermatologist. Hope this helps :flower:

i've never heard of this but i would suggest a visit to a dermatologist- they can help with any skin problem you have.

Oxy pads make your pores produce more oil than they do regularly  The pads dry out your skin, which makes your skin produce twice as much oil. At least thats what an old esthetician told me.

try oil paper stuff. You know what i mean you wipe it on and it blots it away. I forget the name but chanel does one. sorry im not being very helpfull

I would just buy Q-Tips in bulk. And use them compulsively right after every time you wash your face and shower.

Don't use alcohol or any alcohol-based products on your ears, ever (unless for disinfecting purposes like ear-piercing); because it will trigger more oil production and make it worse. Ears are naturally oily because they are self-cleaning (ie. produces ear wax).

It's true, in general, that if you strip all the oil from your skin (as in using an Oxy pads), your glands will produce even more oil, "thinking" that your skin needs it.

If you are producing so much oil that that your hair gets wet and oily from your ears, than I would also suggest seeing a derm. Do you have acne as well? If not, than I would say to stop using the Oxy pads, as they may be causing an overproduction of oil. If you are not exaggerating and do have acne and uber-productive oil glands, a derm. may suggest Accutane. Accutane is a very harsh drug- coming from someone who has been on it before- so make sure it is worth the "side-effects' before you begin treatment.
