i think i'd like to go forward in stead of back...or perhaps sideways into a parallel universe...where androgyny ruled... and everyone always looked lovely...
i want to live in a place and time where men wear skirts...
and women wear ties...

as you like it, have you looked at janet arnold's book, patterns of fashion 1860 - 1940? I think there is a pattern in it for the type of coat you described.
as of late I've been really drawn to aesthetic clothing from the 19th century - I just wrote an essay on it, and the whole concept of it is so attractive. it's basically pre-art nouveau, so it's based on natural shapes, colours, textures and textiles - lots of beautiful draping, etc. I've always loved mediaeval clothing, and aesthetic clothing is based on the 13th century, but a little more decorative. absolutely gorgeous. if I'd lived in the 19th century, I think I definitely would have been a crazy eccentric aesthetic dresser.

I've got that book, and adore it. I drafted an 1890s day-dress based on one I modeled a few years ago, but haven't gotten around to buying a bolt of muslin to try it out yet.
The aesthetics were pretty cool. I think it was due in part to them that the leg-o-mutton sleeves came in in the first place, and the "Empire" revival of circa 1905-09, I think can be attributed to their influences, too.
I have a thing for Aesthetic interior decor. Bring on the Liberty wallpaper, Arts & Crafts furniture, and Japanese watercolor prints. Viva greenery-yallery!

If I lived in a more daring country I'd wear whatever, particularly a seethru harem pant with a bikini underneath but if I walk the streets with a plain denim short I have yells from all around in this country where every man has the obligation to say something to the girl that's passing by..

I like the alternate universe idea...to expand on that I'd like to live in a world where everyone is dressed in razor sharp tailoring, slim black suits and trousers and Philippe Starck glasses...I like that cool, detached feel...but then again if everyone dressed like that it would get boring.
