I wonder if anyone can share yr handcare philosophy with us.

Though I apply cream to my hands(& I'm still young), my hands looks 10years older, cracks. I suspect in what direction(up, down, left or right?) u apply it will affect the result enormously(& I think I've done it wrong).

Oh.. i don't know about the direction you apply can influence it.. :ermm: that's interesting but i'd never heard of it before.. So maybe someone else here can help with that.
But what i've heard is that it's important to apply sunscreen to the backs of your hands, to prevent those age spots later on...
Right now i'm also using an inexpensive night cream as hand cream and it works really well.
I guess you need something quite rich to help heal and soften those cracks...

The direction of application should not matter, what matters is to work the cream into your skin with nice, even strokes.

^My mom tried that once. She smeared petroleum jelly on her hands and put on a pair of cotton gloves before she slept and it worked like a charm. You can do that with your feet too but beware...it feels disgusting.

^ Yes, my hands crack too in the winter. The direction doesn't matter ...

Suggest a few things ...

* Get a hand cream that has silicone in it for a quick fix. You don't want the cracks to bleed, or your hands to snag on your nice things.
* Get a few moisturizing ones to see what works for you best. I also have very sensitive skin, so double bind ...
* After you put sunscreen on your face/neck each morning, rub what's left into your hands.
* The gloves are a good idea.
* Moisturize your hands after you bathe or take a shower--that's when it really works.
* Apply lotion/hand cream after washing your hands.
* Keep it everywhere--in your purse, next to your sinks, next to your bed.

PS Sorry, just noticed you're a guy ;) Finding gloves in your size may be an issue. Maybe you could use tube socks or something & take them off when they start to bug you ... The gloves have some synthetic content--I think the idea is for them not to breathe so all the moisture is trapped inside. You will love the silicone ...

Thx, everyone! esp. Fashionista-ta, that's loads of useful advice.
I tried the sock thing, but all I can feel is my hands sweat too much that night, slight improvement, perhaps there're just too many tiny holes in them :p. I think I'll try gloves later & should change the cream I'm using.

^ I think if your hands are sweating, the socks are working ;) You want a hand cream with humectants that will draw all the moisture back into your skin.

Forgot to mention a specific product recommendation ... it seems to work more on the surface, but Beauticontrol Regeneration Extreme Repair Hand Therapy for Dry and Damaged Skin really gets your hands smooth in a hurry. I use it in the winter before putting my hose on, prevents snags. Also great if you're going shopping and will be touching fabric. What I really want is something as effective as this that also does deep healing. Let me know if you find anything good :flower:

^ That sounds like a great cream - my hands get awfully chapped in the winter. Thanks :)

Thx fashionista-ta, I will. What's the brand for "Beauticontrol Regeneration Extreme Repair Hand Therapy for Dry and Damaged Skin", anyway?

I know drinking water can affect our skin too. But how much and often should we drink water that we don't end up getting puffy face/eyes? (My face tends to absorb water very well :p )

^ You think I gave you that huge long name without the brand? ;) Beauticontrol is the brand ... hopefully you can find it online, not sure where you are.

As far as water, it would probably be hard to drink too much. It's not the water per se that makes you puffy, it's retaining it ... more salt that makes you puffy. I don't think guys have the cyclical water retention that we do :p Someone else can probably speak to this better ...

Cheers!
Sorry, I thought it's just the product name. Though it's hard to find the great things around the world here, I think I'll try to find them. But in the meantime, I think doing nothing is best for my weird skin. :p
