Same as in Europe, indie designers in NY turn their attention to indie bands and rising actors/dancers etc. for mutual PR and press cuts.
Seems like in NY its been really working if noticed by Barney's

yes ...just one more thing vivienne westwwod did first...at least she's getting credit for it...

but who are any of those other designers mentioned...doesn't seem like it worked exceptionally well if they are largely unknown... epsecially since most of the kids who are wannabe designers have no training...as the article mentions...it's one thing to make something that only has to last for the duration of filming a video...you could basically staple a dress together for a music video...that doesn;t mean you can actually be a legitimate designer...and custom orders aren't enough to make a living for long...

ps-orchard bar is basically a dive filled with a bunch of wannabes... not exactly where you're gonna find you big 'break'...

it seems to work with hollywood celebs..but the music industry is so youth driven that the people who are influenced by musicians are to young to be able to afford designer fashions...not the right market...

Cloak is doing pretty well, although it's a first time I see them mentioned in an article... I don't know who any other of those people are. There is a label called Obesity and Speed. The girl who designs it works (and sells it) at Seven. Now there is an awesome way to promote your label. Work in a store in exchange for shelf space.
