Inspiring Makeup Art

I feel a little sad now that I can't see the Jean Harlow pics that I posted. I don't know if you can either. But Courtney Love has almost the same colours both in makeup, skin and hair: like platinum blonde hair,ivory/alabaster skin and red lips. I'm not sure but I think Courtney copied Jean in the beginning of the 90's because she used to have those colours then and I found atleast three pics of Jean in Courtneys Diary book Dirty Blonde.

JenniferEdieRose: With a platinum blonde wig, blue contactlenses(or maybe you already have that naturally) and I think you can do the Jean Harlow look to!

    OOOOH! I would love to but i'm just not that good, i wanna learn the ways of sculpturing the face, like making my nose look thinner on the sides and making the ball at the front smaller, oh and of course CHEEKBONES! lol

At the moment a book i just got, which is, Vogue Body and Beauty book by Bronwen Meredith. It was written in 1977, got it in a charity shop!
But it talks loads about fabulous makeup tips, even Women tips, its so good. Have you heard of it?

Oh yeah i can still see those Courtney Love/Jean Harlow photos, have you got the latest issue of POP? Courtney is on the front cover, she also asked not to be airbrushed, she's soooooooo cool and she said Kurt Kobain wasn't the love of her life AND she has been sober for 12 months  lol

JenniferEdieRose: I still think you can do the Jean Harlow makeover on yourself one day.
Kevyn Aucoin writes about contouring that includes cheeks, nose I think and also Robert Jones. You can really learn that from those books. I haven't really tried it on myself. But I will someday.
No I don't think I have read/looked in that Vogue book, but I'm not so sure.
Do you like it? I'm gonna look it up since I love beauty books.

Great that you can see the Jean Harlow pics! What do you think about the Jean and Courtney pics?
No I don't have the latest issue of POP. But I have saved the cover pictures and the photo session pictures on my computer. I didn't know that she asked not to be airbrushed. But I think that that was brave of her.
You don't believe she has been sober for 12 months? She said on Diane Sawyer that she had been clean and sober for I year and three months?

Well I do believe her, espcially reading POP but i guess there is alot of skepticism about her.

Yeah but definitly get that vogue book i will photograph some pages, its a terrific book and has lots of colour pictures of the old 1920's/30's Vogue covers

JenniferEdieRose, I've got a round face too, and there's a couple of tips I picked up to slim the face - I'm a makeup addict, so these are tried-and-true :)

To make your nose thinner on the side, put some illuminating cream or highlighter on the sides. The reflection you get from the shimmer draws attention away from the width of the nose - from the front, especially, your nose looks much thinner because the focus (and the darker shade) is more on the front of your nose. It really works.
For the ball in front of your nose, dont do this- shimmer will just draw attention to it. Keep it uniform, the same color as your face.
For contouring, having a contour brush helps, but I dont bother. I put blush on the apples of my cheeks, and then I take any large brush, dip it in a shimmer tanning powder (I use one from MAC), suck in my cheeks a little, and brush it just below my cheekbones, from the middle of my cheek (under the blush) to my hairline. I make it SLIGHTLY darker in the hollows of my cheek, than the area by my hairline, because if it was all the same color, it'd look scary. Plus, by making the cheek-cheekbone area darker, it makes your cheeks look much thinner.

Hope this helps, and if I wasnt concise enough, which I often am not, just let me know, and I'll clear it up! :)

I do apologise but I'm gonna contradict everything you've just said.

I'm currently studying makeup artistry and have just studied corrective noses for photographic work.

To make a nose look thinner, you shade the nostrils/side of the nose and highlight the front, leaving a clean definite line between the light at the dark - this also straightens a 'bent' or broken nose.

I don't mean to sound harsh or anything, I'm just pedantic about makeup advice.

Artistry ANdglam- Love the make up! :heart:What products do you use for those looks? Also your face is darling. YOu have a lot of natural beauty. I guess it helps you pull off some of the riskier make up looks.:flower:

Thank you so much :D
I mostly use MAC makeup, but some of that was Tony &Tina, Stila, Makeup Forever, and NARS.
I have new pictures of other peoples' makeup i' ve done, so i' ll be glad to post those soon and get some opinions &help on that. :)

I have noticed that the key to most of these looks is liquid eyeliner- too bad I am TERRIBLE at applying that!

to make applying it easier, you can always put normal eyeliner on your eye, then trace over it with the liquid. it helps for starting/practicing. &the best kind to use is a felt tip, not the brush kind.

i was taught to make a nose appear thinner, to do one of two things. either, highlight down the middle of the nose. or shade the sides of the nose. but not to do both. but i assume for photography, makeup is a little different because it shows up different on camera.

fancyyyyy? ha.

so, some of these pictures are repeated from my last post, but a different/better picture of the makeup. some of these are me and some are my friends.. the boy in the picture is my boyfriend. he used to wear makeup [foundation, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara]. and yes, he' s straight. and looked damn good too. hah. but this is the makeup i did on myself &all of them;
