Hi,

I have been trying to find some information regarding Burberry handbags, how to spot if they real or fake..I got one from Ebay and it arrived today..I have been looking at it all afternoon and I'm kind of worried..:(
Here is the link with the bag I got...

bbags30.jpg

I even tried to lookup some information about the zipper..Under the zipper it has engraved LAMPO, is that the brand of zippers Burberry uses?

I have bought other stuff from the seller, like 7jeans and prada shoes, and I had no problem..

Thanks!

(*Edit by Luna* -- In the future, please do not link directly to Ebay... I have replaced the link with a pic from the auction for you. Thanks!! )

Authetic Burberry bags have checkered pattern that perfectly align at the seams. In the picture, it looks like the checked lines don't align. This would be a dead give-away that it's a fake. I'd ask for my money back on the basis of false advertisement.

Somebody else too told me to check whether the checked lines align...Before bidding I used the picture from neimanmarcus.com to compare..so this appears to be the same..Is there anything else that I could check for authenticity?
How about going to a Burberry store and ask them to check? I feel kind of embarresed to do that though..

^If you feel embarassed, go into a Burberry store and take a look at their bags yourself. Maybe you'll find some differences that can help you tell them apart.

looks quite fake.
But I bought a burberry bag at the Heathrow airport Burberry
and the check patterns are not matched!!!!

messed up double post.

is that the tag in the bottom picture? it seems like something you'd get at an outlit or warehouse store. i know anytime i've shopped at warehouse stores the tags have been marked out like that. but not the hole in it. so it probably is authenic, but damaged or messed up in some way, perhaps the way the checks don't line up.

Here's what I come up with when I examine my authentic Burberry:

1) The lines on authentic Burberry bags don't always line up.

2) Does it have Burberry lining? (the one I have does).

3) Don't know anything about the "non return" hole in the label. Could mean it's defective, OR it could mean someone tried to return a fake for money and got caught. However - the tag on that bag doesn't match the tag in my bag (mine is shiny black with slightly embossed silver lettering).

4) My Burberry dust bag is navy with much larger letters (but I did purchase mine some time ago).

5) Mine doesn't have LAMPO on the zipper.

Based on this, I'm not sure it's real. I'd have it checked out (and demand a refund if it isn't on the up and up).

Good luck :flower:

Totally, my Burberry bag isnt aligned either.
And the dustbag is navy blue.
Also, the lining of mine says Burberry on it...

I purchased mine at the Burberry in South Coast Plaza...

the hole punch doesn't necessarily mean anything other than it was on sale. some stores do it for final sale items to make it absolutely clear that they can't be returned.

Also, outlet stores mark their clothing (I'm not full sure of the purpose) to signal that it is from an outlet/sale/etc. That may be all that is. Excess items can be sold at outlet stores all the time, and many times they were not carried in the main line put out by the designer...

maybe to prevent people from trying to return items to department stores (which will sometimes let you return things without a receipt)?

that sounds like a good idea.

Hi again,

Thank you all for your feedback..
Well today after work I decided to go to the Burberry's store. I went in and checked the same bag. To be honest the exterior material looked and felt the same as mine..Also, the interior looked the same as well. Neither of these had a burberry lining, just plain black. I checked though the zipper on the one in the store and it wasn't the same brand as mine. It had no engraving underneath it, but had YKK in tiny letters on the side. It could be possible that they were made at a different location/time period so they have a different zipper brand..However, I'm going to ask for a refund, even though the seller states that he doesn't accept returns. I decided to just pay another 100bucks and get it from the store..This is just too stressful..

I've been burned by ebay before, and it sucks big-time! I just asked for a refund, even though the seller had a no return/refund policy. I told him I had it checked out at a Burberry store and was told it was a fake. The seller insisted the bag was authentic, but agreed to take it back for a full refund. I think he was just trying to save face by not admitting it was a fake. It also doesn't hurt to come out strong and say that you will file a fraud claim if they refuse the to take it back. Most of these dishonest sellers don't want to put up with the headache of dealing with an angry customer, so they'll usually be open to refunding your money. Ebay is definately buyer-beware land. You did the right thing by spending a little more and getting the real deal. :flower:
