"When I was younger, people would tell me I had what it took to become a model. I'd then ask my mother if this was a way I could make enough money to help out my family." Today, topmodel Isabeli Fontana already has plans for when she retires from the runway--"I'll definitely live in Brazil, maybe go into business or design my own line of clothes"--even though at only 20 years old and at the top of her career she still has plenty of years left. During Sao Paulo Fashion Week, Isabeli became one of her country's best ambassadors, a place where she didn't get any particularly special attention in the first years of her career, yet today she is treated as a celebrity. "I love what Brazilian designers have done and I truly think it is unique," assured Isabeli, that starred in such runway shows as Forum, Ellus, Rosa Cha, Fause Haten and Alexander Herchcovitch. In such a familiar environment--all of the models are Brazilian, family and friends are freely admitted backstage--Isabeli also served as our host as we joined her on a marathon schedule of interviews, fittings and our shoot. One full week she barely had time to recoup. After her last show and accompanied by her husband, son and grandmother, Isabeli left on a flight to New York to star in the new Carlos Miele campaign.
