James Dean

Him & Pier were beautiful together:heart:. Urgh, I really disliked the pairing in East of Eden though, Julie Harris was a terrible Abra imo
Aw really? I thought they had the best chemistry compared to his other leading ladies  She seemed more motherly, and I thought that kind of persona went well against the wayward, childish character that James Dean played. But then again, I love East of Eden the most out of all his movies, so I may be biased

^ She just annoyed me for some reason, I can't watch it all the time because she bugs me:ninja:- I think she didnt fit my vision of what Abra would be like image-wise and that she over-acted in some places.

Natalie Wood :heart:= Definite upgrade:lol:

^ Ah yes, I know what you mean :flower: Julie Harris was a lot older than Dean, but Kazan insisted that she should play Abra and personally, I'm happy that she took the role

I'm actually annoyed by Natalie Wood's character in Rebel Without a Cause  But she was a good actress ^_^

Do you know, I actually dislike Rebel Without A Cause (I think I'm the only one:lol:), I watch it occasionally just for James, and Natalies wonderful wardrobe & I agree that I like her a lot more in her other film roles (like Penelope:heart:)

Hey me too! :woot: I find Rebel Without a Cause overrated actually :ninja: I was definitely underwhelmed by it, but I understand how it became iconic. It came out in the right place and at the right time...and of course the wardrobe, especially the red winbreaker.

Dean's acting was persistently arresting though, especially in Giant when he wasn't so affected by Brando's influence.

I understand how it did so well too, its part of movie history it was quite ground-breaking but not really my sort of thing I guess:(

It makes me sad that James' brilliant talents and career were cut off so brutally. He hadnt even shown us what he was really capable of yet, so sad:cry:

Oh yes definitely  But it's amazing how he only made 3 movies (sans all the TV shows) and yet they are still analyzed and Dean is still remembered today

^ I agree, true sentiments of an amazing man:heart:

All this talk has gotten me in the mood for East of Eden- I think I will watch it and try to appreciate Julie Harris:lol:

I saw his photo in a book a few weeks ago. There is something so magical about him, my eyes can't look away! This thread is so great, there's many photos of James I haven't seen before. Thank you to everyone who's provided insightful comments, videos and posts! :crush::D

One night i watched all his three movies (even the giant...hahahha) he was just amazing.
and next day i bought book of him, full of pictures.hahaha.
why i can´t find my own james dean?!?!?!

i bought book of him, full of pictures.hahaha.
Me too! :woot: I have 2 hardcover picturebooks, I cherish them so much ^_^

He always had photographers taking pictures of him, thank God. I mean, he was around Hollywood for like 4 years and yet there are gazillion pictures of him.

^yes he had. have you seen the pics of him in his apartment...with the round window ?

and he did not really sleep, but could then take little nap is random places.hahah.sweet.

I think I've seen those pictures. There are a couple from that set though, if I'm not mistaken ^_^ I love his collection of music and books, he really was quite wordly.

He was a terrible insomniac   That explains his prominent eyebags!

^but the eyebags was sooooo part of him. i find them kinda cute. hahahha.
and i was amazed by his book and music collection too.
gosh, i wish he would have live, it was such a terrible lost.
wonder how amazing movies he would have done?
my favourite must be east of eden <3
i would talk about him like forever, but my friends don´t really understand the attraction of him :O

Aw that's my favourite too  I've watched it so many times, I think I can recite the lines by heart

His performance was so raw and unfettered, it was amazing!

yes i absolutely agree, and he was so adorable in it, it was so cute scene when cal kissed abra

ferris wheel scene is one of...if not my absolute favorite scene. it is so sweet and beautiful...though the scene where he gives his father the money and is then rejected is painful to watch as I find it so truthful and realistic.

^ That scene with the father is truly hard to watch

It was actually improvised by Dean and the actor who played his father didn't know how to react. It was so powerful that Kazan decided to put it in the movie ^_^
