We're hearing swirls inside the Conde Nast building that it's confirmed, Jane Magazine folded today.

We adore(d) Jane, and we are bummed. More details later.

As casualties go, it's probably not unexpected, but it's still a shock to hear.

Is that it for Jane? Not even an online reincarnation?

We hear the same thing Radar is hearing: Condé Nast is folding Jane magazine. Staffers were informed this morning, according to multiple sources.

E-mails to editor Brandon Holley
have yet to be returned.

Holley took over the title from founding editor and namesake Jane Pratt, who left — or was pushed, depending who you ask — in 2005.

Newsstand sales were reportedly down, but according to the Publishers Information Bureau, ad revenue ($6.2 million, up from $4.5 million, a 40 percent) and pages were up (35.4 percent) through March.

We're hearing that Condé Nast is pulling the plug on Jane, the 10-year-old women's magazine started by Jane Pratt. Staffers learned of the decision this morning.

Pratt was forced out two years ago as the magazine floundered in both circulation and advertising sales. Since then, Brandon Holley, formerly of Elle Girl, has tried to reinvigorate the magazine, to little effect. Newsstand sales in the first half of this year were down, according to sources.

Calls to Holley and to Condé Nast spokespeople have yet to be returned.

Sad, if true, rumor: We're hearing that Jane magazine, which provided us so much joy with its coverage of boobs, has apparently folded. A call to Editor in Chief Brandon Holley resulted in our being informed that she was "in a meeting." Wonder what that might be about. UPDATE: The ad people just got back from a short meeting at which they were told the news. UPDATE update: A friend hears from an employee: "It's done, everyone is packing up and has to be out today

I never read Jane, but the people I know who did said it had gotten really bad in the last few years. Still, its sad to see such a major magazine going under

Jane magazine has folded, The Daily has confirmed. According to sources at Condé Nast Publications, Jane’s parent organization, staffers returned from the long holiday weekend and were informed of the news this morning. Editor in chief Brandon Holley and vice president/publisher Carlos Lamadrid are leaving the company, while staffers are welcome to interview for new positions within Condé Nast. Jane will cede publishing with the August issue. The magazine’s complementary website (www.janemag.com) will be shut down as well. Jane was founded in September 1997 by Jane Pratt. On August 8, 2005, Holley was named editor in chief. She had been at Ellegirl under the same position.“This was a very difficult decision for us,” said Charles H. Townsend, president and chief executive officer of Condé Nast Publications, said in a statement. “We worked diligently to make Jane a success. However, we have come to believe that the magazine and website will not fulfill our long-term business expectations.” Holley was unavailable for comment.

i want to know what i'll get for the rest of my subscription.

It is sad to seeit fold, but hey better that than awful covers and contents.

awwww, they had some cool indie actresses on their covers sometimes that i bought, and still stayed off mainstream more or less unlike nylon recently:(

What a shame. I had really high hopes for Jane when Brandon Holley took over - I loved what she did with ElleGirl. And I thought the last couple issues were pretty good.

Mediabistro is reporting that the August issue will be the last, so I don't know what's gonna happen with Naomi Watts' photoshoot for the September issue.

NEW YORK — Conde Nast Publications said Monday it is closing Jane magazine and its accompanying Web site.

The magazine, which debuted in September 1997, will end with its August issue. It had a total average paid circulation of 706,561, according to data provided on the company's Web site in September 2006.

"We worked diligently to make Jane a success. However, we have come to believe that the magazine and website will not fulfill our long-term business expectations," Conde Nast President and Chief Executive Charles Townsend said in a statement.

what has Jane Pratt been up ever since she "left" Jane?

from wwd...

Though the magazine Jane Pratt founded was closed Monday, the former editor told several media reporters that she is hard at work on returning to the print world. When Pratt left Jane in July 2005, talk swirled that Pratt would launch a fortysomething women's title called Elizabeth, which is her middle name. But Elizabeth won't be her next act in print just yet. Though she did not reveal many details of her upcoming project, Pratt said she is working on a magazine geared toward readers in their teens and 20s. Pratt said she has a launch date and a company through which she will publish the title, but would not reveal either except to say she will not launch the title with Reader's Digest Association, now headed by former boss and ex-Fairchild chief executive officer Mary Berner. But until her next act in publishing, Pratt can be found on Sirius satellite radio, where she hosts a talk show Friday nights. On Tuesday, she hosted a show where she talked about Jane's closure and fielded a call from former Jane fashion editor Eric Nicholson, who's now senior fashion editor at Marie Claire. On comparing his new position to his job at Jane, Nicholson, an obvious Pratt loyalist, lovingly replied, "Yeah, it's definitely bigger and different. I wouldn't say better. My heart always will be at Jane magazine with you."
