Jane Mayle to Close

I don't know, I guess I'm of a mind that if you really do love what you're doing, you face these kinds of challenges and find ways around them. These problems are industry wide at this point, so it's not just her that's being effected.

That's just my not entirely well-informed and overly idealized opinion though.

She can still design, if I were her I'd try to grab a job as a director somewhere with a high profile, do that gig for a few seasons, make the connections, and then try again with a new business plan. But she probably won't try running her own business for a while, I certainly wouldn't want to.

What a shame!
I've only discovered her over the last couple of years and love her clothes :(
But If she's not into it anymore then good for her......

OMG OH NOOOOOOOOOOOO im going to go *********** now... she is my all time favorite.. what the hell!!!!!!!!! she doesnt know how to market herself at all in my opinion . She never did know how... her stuff was WAY too expensive also.. man.. she was my all time fav... i just found this out today and i am the most depressed girl alive im seriously crying right now. do you know it has always been my dream to go to NY one day and go into her boutique..... i want to *********** now.. is her stuff on sale? on ebay her stuff even used goes for Well over the retail price imagine what it will go for NOW that shes DONE.... man oh man...

shes certainly not going out with a bang eithr her newest collection STINKS.

UGotMayle...while i understand your disappointment, do you think perhaps you could tone it down and employ some sensitivity and caution when choosing your words?....i think it would be nice if you would stop throwing around phrases about depression and killing yourself and wanting to die....not only is it completely melodramatic, it is actually quite inappropriate. thanks..:flower:

awww come on! Think of how you would feel if your favorite designer dropped off the side of the earth.. Its like shes dead now..

what i'm about to say is off topic but i will say it anyway because i think it's important- as someone who has lost two family members in the past week, i can say with all confidence that it is NOT like she is dead....and that your language is highly inappropriate....i don't know how anyone else feels but i would appreciate if you took that into consideration from now on....your words are powerful and while the loss of a designer is sad, you need to put things into perspective....please have some respect Mayle

^ i have to agree. i understand that you may be sad or disappointed, but it's quite inappropriate, not to mention over-dramatic, to start talking about killing yourself on this thread.

Come on you all. You all are being WAY WAY WAY too overly serious. I wasn't being serious. In all honesty you all are making me feel even worse about all of this. Thanks a lot.. I cannot believe how you all thought I was serious that I wanted to ***********.. I was just in the moment and very upset.. gosh...

Nobody thinks you're going to *************, dear!^_^ We understand what you're saying. But as a public space, one never knows who may be reading it and taking it to heart...that's why topics/expressions that might elicit strong responses are not allowed on tFS, even though it sometimes seems overly cautious. Especially a person like you who means no harm, for your own sake you really dont want to be responsible for such a misunderstanding. :flower: Just my two cents.

It's too bad about Mayle...but this happens to even the best. sounds like she's got something up her sleeve though.

I'm very very sorry about your losses, adorefaith...it must be a very difficult time for you. Our prayers are with you and your family.

I agree, fashion is a fickle business. it's not like she's disappeared forever. do you think that if some big label offers her a creative director stint she's going to turn it down?

let's just have some patience and see what happens.

is she still leaving? i heard the news over the summer and since then i've seen resort and spring 2009 collections.. i'd be glad if she stayed, and also if prices dropped :)

fashionista.com also broke the story.

So...publicity stunt?

Back when Jane Mayle announced she would be closing up shop next month, everyone shared pretty much the same reaction: Sadness and disappointment with an undertone of “I’ve got to hit their next sale.” So you’d think that today’s news of Mayle holding off her closing until April - and tucking a “highly limited-edition collection” into the crunched time space, too - would have brought only one response from everyone, but maybe not so.
One half of the Fashionista office was all, “Yay! Another shot at cute Mayle clothes before summer! Hope there are little dresses.”
The other half: “Whoa, really? That seems a little sneaky - Getting sales off all the hype from closing? And while everyone’s been clamoring to get a piece from her last, or what was her last, collection? It’s a little off-putting, though I’m sure it’ll all be great stuff.”
So is this kind of like a backhanded piece of good news?
We’ll think about this afternoon - But of course, see you at the store, right?

whatever the case, i'm very glad she's not closing ^_^

well, she had problems with production as far as i know as she had changed manufaturer for her last collection. the biggest problem is that the prices suddenly became so much more expensive that the retail price just did not justify the pieces anymore.
i hope that if she is back she has taken all that into consideration :)

I´ve also read something about problems with the store´s lease leading to her closing up shop.

Your Really Last Chance to Get Mayle. Really.

Ladies, this is your last chance. And Jane Mayle really means it this time. Though the beloved Mayle shop in Nolita will indeed be closing on February 28—as was previously announced to much keening and weeping—Mayle is coming back for an all-too-brief encore on March 6. The pop-up Mayle shop will feature a selection of classic pieces (some styles date back as far as Spring 2002) redone in fabric from the designer’s archives. “So many of my customers have been waxing nostalgic and telling me how much they wish certain items could make a reappearance,” explains Mayle of her decision to launch the pop-up, which will stay open through the end of March. “This is my way of trying to satisfy that demand, as well as finding a worthy and very ‘green’ home for fabrics I’ve been holding onto.” Pieces included in the limited-edition collection destined for the pop-up include the label’s classic Avignon dress, a ’40s-style tea dress, and several styles from Fall ‘03, which Mayle herself describes as a favorite collection. “This is also kind of a selfish endeavor,” she notes. “Now I have the chance to update a few silhouettes, or finesse a detail I always wanted to fix, or see what a blouse or a dress would look like in a different material. And it’s the last chance for me to shore up
my Mayle wardrobe, too.”
