Janice Dickinson is anything but tight lipped. This morning on
The Today Show, she infamously called
Tyra Banks "fat" while defending
Jennifer Love Hewitt. The controversial model recently sat down with
OK! to give her outspoken opinions on the modeling industry.
How has the industry changed from when you started out in the '70s?
The industry has died as far as modeling has gone, and I'll tell you why. Magazines are featuring the
Halle Berrys and
Sarah Jessica Parkers, all the actresses. Makeup companies are featuring all the celebrities. All the models have died.
Is anorexia rife in the industry?
I'm a former bulimic myself and it's a horrible, horrible addiction. Yes, the models are still doing that. Just last month alone, at Bryant Park in New York City in the summer, I saw girls going back and forth to the bathrooms, wiping their noses, smoking cigarettes, you know, dabbing their mouths after hurling a meal. It's tragic.
Do you think models represent an unrealistic role model for today's young women?
I can only speak from my own personal experience, being behind the camera and in front of it, but every magazine cover you see is completely airbrushed. We've been giving young girls and boys a sense of falseness. The lighting is made to fool the public — everything is pinned. I've been fooling the public for years and I'm really good at it.
