Jean Paul Gaultier Corsets

I've just started a new project at college, and for my 3D specialism ive given myself the aim to make a corset out of knitting wire and using steel rods for the boning. I've done a few samples, and they look cuteeeeeeeeeeeeeee, but knitting wire KILLS your hand!

So basically, before we actually start making the final product, we have to research. My teacher said to me that I could at least fill half my sketchbook (about 25pages) with research on Jean Paul Gaultier corsetry.. I've taken the only book out from the library on him, searched the net for days, but im finding it VERY difficult to get anymore information on how he constructs them or any decent images. (apart from the pointy booby corset he did for Madonna lol, and his perfume advertisements)

So I was wondering if anyone knew any sites that could help me?

(Im also researching Paco Rabanna as he did a chainmail/metal collection, but I'm leaving him til after I've sorted out Gaultier )

have a look at the Hermes a/w 04 collection by Gaultier, if you just browse back fashionspot pages (or just enter the FS search)

another great inspiration for corsets can be either Vivienne Westwood, old Christian Lacroix couture collections and of course older work from Alexander McQueen.

if you want you could also browse 1800-1900 archives for old corset designs and theatrical costumes, here should be an abudance if you just enter 'corset' in your Yahoo search.

ACTUALLY KIDS

It's a VERY serious treatise on the historical and social nature of clothes and fashion . B)

A student SHOULD red it to gain an overall background of the subject .

The title is meant to be arresting , but sums up the book superbly .

Colin McDowell's ' Dictionary of Twentieth Century Fashion '

Published by Frederick Muller - a division of Century Hutchinson 1984 ,

is also a MUST for the fashion student .
