Jennifer Lawrence

Speaking for myself, I am not criticizing everything she does, as you say. I respect her as an actress and have always thought her personality is refreshingly down to earth and likeable. Exactly the reason why I found myself disappointed in this case. But obviously, she does not need to be judged, at the end of the day, she's just as human as every one of us and this could have been just a bad day or something we are unaware of. I just hope she stays a little bit more professional in the future.

Yeah, but Amy declining to answer a questions about David's comments on Jennifer's schedule is totally different to this.
Wow LA Times completely missed out the context of that to make it sound more salacious than it was and to make it sound like it was a comment on Jennifer's fame.

Well then Amy is even more entitled to be angry than I thought she was. I don't think this a backlash or an overreaction. A lot of us still like her but she did something stupid.

She looks incredible in that dress, her body is amazing.

But she definitely behaved bratty and rude in that press conference, I understand the attitude towards the stupid, disrespectful and degrading questions - but there were questions about her roles and her work that she should have answered with more dignity and respect.

Yeah, she comes across borderline rude in that press conference... I'm sure Amy wasn't thrilled to be answering questions about her mom's beauty secrets and dresses either but she handled it with grace, kept it short and sweet, because her work speaks for itself.

I think it's just that she is a little awkward and she admits it, these kinds of things (fancy dress, awards) seems outside her comfort zone... she's more a simple girl-next-door personality. I think coupled with her age, she just hasn't learned to fake it yet.

Big deal.... But F**ck Cooper was funny though when he left. She might've been tipsy too, it won't be the first time.

You can tell they probably said something to her about her responses before the press meeting so I guess she was feeling a little bit moody (note when shes about to respond and they mentioned "use your words jen"). Jennifer is not interested in fashion, she hates talking about her beauty. Shes grown up in Kentucky and still getting used to that. Even in that sense shes become a face of a brand so she really has no say on what shes wearing so when people ask her about it what is she suppose to say every time? Its not that she was rude she was just annoyed about answering those silly questions especially the fashion icon one. She is nowhere near considered one. She may have handled it not with as much grace but to overreact about it is unnecessary imo

Imagine if this was Kristen Stewart, would you guys still think people are overreacting by saying she was rude? just saying...

Can I say that people calling tha fashion questions "degrading" and "insulting" are the ones overreacting?

If I'm not mistaken they asked the same amount of questions regarding fashion and acting, for whatever reason she was annoyed by those as well... people keep talking about the fashion questions as if they only asked her about it. And they probably asked her the icon one because she's the face of Dior...

^ Why did they ask any fashion questions when they just won an award for their acting? Why was it just addressed to Jennifer and Amy and not the whole cast? It's just another example of numerous inequalities the women in the industry face.

This is a rare example of her acting rude to her cast mates and the press. Therefore most people are giving her the benefit of the doubt while simultaneously saying what she did was wrong. If she continues to do this, she'll probably lose fans and gain an unprofessional reputation.

The fashion questions were stupid, specially the mom advice one but there's a whole industry about women celebs and fashion (what are we doing here?) an it's expected the press will ask them in any context if they have the chance.

My comment was aimed at those giving her the benefit of the doubt while saying that people who think she was rude are overreacting.

I watched the press video and she did seem testy. While I am annoyed the fashion questions were specifically directed at Amy and Jennifer, there were several meaty questions that were posed to the whole cast in general, so if Jen wanted to answer a more serious question, she could have stepped up to the mic at any time. (Amy even says at one point 'I feel like I'm dominating' cuz she took a few hits for the entire cast.)

Fashion might not be Jen's thing, but she's no longer that green. If this press conference had happened circa Winter's Bone, I'd be totally understanding. But she's been in the spotlight for three years, is part of not one, but TWO, big franchises, and has been in press rooms large and small since then. Basically, she's been around long enough that she knows how the game work. She needs to step it up. Too many foot-in-the-mouth moments and Hollywood isn't going to give her a pass. Right now, she's the It Girl, so she can get away with it. But in a few years, this sort of behavior is not going to do her any favors. (To me, it came across as a snotty winner who had to be forced up to the microphone and she seriously overreacted when she started cussing. I did like though that she gave total credit to Dior and her stylist though.)

I still really like her gown, but oddly, it also seems rather generic. Maybe I've gotten more used to seeing her in puffbuff or couture gowns (which I don't think suit her) but the pizazz was still missing.

That press room video is just a 5-minute footage of the event that was lasting for 4-5 hours.
We don't know the whole story.

I'd find her bratty behaviour a little more understandable if she wasn't paid millions of dollars to do press tours. It's an annoying part of the job but everyone has annoying parts of their jobs yet the rest of us don't live in mansions and have Raf Simons on speed dial. Amy handled the whole thing with pure class.

^ I hope that wasn´t the reason she was annoyed at the press room. It doesn´t look good if so imo...

No, it's not overreacting to call journalists asking questions about fashion in a SAG press room what it is: insulting. It is insulting and entirely messed up to ask actresses questions about fashion and beauty in a moment like that. Just because Amy handled the situation with grace does not mean all actresses should be obligated to. The notion that women have to put up with idiocy and double standards with a smile on their face lest they be seem as "ungrateful" is a horrible notion, and I cannot abide anyone actually endorsing it or thinking that's the way actresses should handle these situations. Actually, I wish more actresses would call out that sort of bullsh*t.

And people are talking about the fashion questions because a) excluding the SLP question that was directed to all SLP cast members, the only questions directed to her were fashion questions, and b) that's where the majority of criticism is coming from - people on here are saying she was acting rude to Amy because she let her answer that question. If the question wasn't such a big deal, why is Lawrence letting Amy answer it soooo rude? Especially when Amy had no problem answering and you can see Lawrence smiling and laughing at Amy's answer?

The only thing I didn't like was her swearing at the end, it made me cringe, but it's hardly unforgivable. She isn't the first to swear in a press room and she won't be the last. I'd say "mountain out of a molehill" is an apt way to describe the online fallout from this conference. Interesting that no news media outlet has reported on her so-called rudeness, especially since so many are waiting for the JLaw backlash to begin; if the video was as bad as some are making it out to be, it would be perfect ammo, people would be writing article after article about "Diva JLaw!!!". IMO the fact those articles aren't coming out says it all. Apart from the swearing at the end, the vid isn't bad at all and people are reading into it way too much.

Maybe this is why she was so pissed? I would hate it if someone spoiled a whole TV show when I specifically told them where I was up to...

...It's funny you should post this in the midst of this conversation, because to me she is far more annoying when she does stuff like this with cameras around, her repeated over-the-top freaking out over meeting celebrities at events just seems so fake to me at this point.

As far as the press conference, her behavior didn't bother me, but it did make me appreciate someone articulate and professional like Amy Adams all the more.

IMO I´m just realistic. In an ideal world there won´t be paps invading their privacy either but actresses & fashion make money. Isn´t it a part of an actress´ job to participate in fashion? they appear on fashion mags when it´s time to promote a movie, they charge a fee for wearing gowns on the red carpet, they endorse brands. Even The Fashion Spot benefits financially from us discussing celebs´styles.
I think it´s overracting to say that fashion questions are insulting and degrading because it´s part of an actress´s life and reporters will ask them whenever they have the chance because they don´t always have the chance. I don´t know who the reporters asking fashion questions were, if they work for fashion outlets, is it crazy to think they´ll ask them? Men don´t get asked fashion questions because the market is not big, they don´t move as much money as actresses (like male models don´t earn as much as female ones) but they still are asked who are they wearing on the RC. And they still get objectified by their bodies.
I don´t think "ungrateful" is the right word but unprofessional is. Because -again, it´s my opinion- it´s part of the job, she didn´t have to like it and put a smile on her face but she could have just give a clip answer and move on. I think the fashion questions were innocuous, people working regular jobs deal with this type of situations all the time and they don´t get to act like that, at least without consequences...
