Jennifer Lopez is joining the Coach family.

The actress, singer, producer and entrepreneur on Tuesday was named the new global face of the New York-based accessories and ready-to-wear brand. The partnership will find Lopez appearing in Coach’s global advertising campaigns for leather goods, apparel and footwear, beginning with the spring 2020 season.

Lopez replaces Selena Gomez, who has been the face of the brand since 2016 and has partnered with Coach on accessories and apparel. A spokesperson said that while Gomez is no longer officially under contract, she has built a relationship with the brand over the past few years that is expected to continue.

“I’m so excited for this collaboration with Coach,” Lopez said. “It is a timeless brand that I’ve always been a fan of and the upcoming collection really speaks to my personal style –– an uptown/downtown mix.”

Stuart Vevers, Coach’s creative director, said Lopez is “so authentic. She’s determined and she’s an original who has followed her own path to do things her own way –– she really embodies the attitude of Coach and our new campaign. I loved when Jennifer carried the Coach Signature bags in her 2002 video ‘All I Have.’ She’s from New York, like Coach, which creates another authentic connection with our heritage, and I’m particularly excited about bringing Jennifer and Juergen Teller together.” Teller shoots the brand’s campaigns.

In 2018 the brand tapped Michael B. Jordan to be the global ambassador of its men’s business.

Such weird & confusing choice, I thought coach is dying to be young and fresh, while J.LO is all about sexy & luxurious style for edge & sophisticated women, way out of Coach's targeting market, young customers who walk into the store probably would say

Jennifer would probably use a Coach bag as a paper recycling bin.

Haha! So true.

It does seem like a strange combination, Coach would have been more fitting for her during her On The 6-era. Having said that, I am most definitely more excited to see her than Selena and it just really cool to see Jennifer having such a big moment again. It does feel like it's 2001 again.

So we are going to see a bunch of celebrities in the campaign again?

Replacing 27-year-old Selena with 50-year-old J.Lo is quite refreshing, how often do we get the inverse of that? Still, as has been mentioned, I don't see her appeal to Coach's target market and their desire to reposition themselves as less 'mass market luxury'.
Remember the 'All I Have' video featuring J.Lo with an array of Coach bags? Stills from that video were in that 50th anniversary coffee table book Coach released a few years ago and I have a feeling we'll see some new campaign which is an homage to 'All I Have'..

It's certainly not far fetched when you consider the All I Have video and Jennifer's style back then, but to go from closing the Versace show to fronting Coach campaigns is a bit of a puzzling move. They must've thrown a lot of money at her. Good for her!

Coach Factory Outlet is way way way more profitable than the Coach 1941 line. (I’d even say that the majority of Coach consumers aren’t familiar with the more exclusive 1941 line.) And Jennifer is pretty much Coach Factory Outlet as a brand in her own right.

Makes perfect business sense.

I’m excited by the prospect of Juergen Teller shooting Jennifer Lopez.

Does that mean that she can’t carry her extensive collection of exotics Birkin now?
This is just ridiculous xd
She could have been the perfect face for Versace. For once, Donatella didn’t complete her buzz...

Ouch. LOL.

It's interesting to read how everyone's take is almost complete opposite. Coach is too good for J.Lo, J.Lo is too good for Coach; she needs a better brand, they need a better face, etc. lol

Phuel's mouth ought to be washed out with a bar of soap, I'll do the honours!

That said, her going with them was obviously more about the money than anything else. Because the Coach aesthetic is not up her street at all, everything is just such a clash. Coach doesn't do sexy.
Also, agree with Lola when she says that this reflects poorly on Versace and their inability to tie her down for a deal. God knows they are actually in need of some consistency, anything just to liven up their campaigns. After all the song and dance, they only got promo for a single dress?

That’s why I think that to save face and capitalize on the buzz or at least. regain a new buzz, Donatella is going to use all the instagirls available.
Seriously, having JLO as a global brand ambassador could have been such a great deal for Versace. Two great forces with a worldwide aura...
She can sells Versace bags, perfumes, fashion and she has a SuperBowl coming.

I really don’t think that Coach/JLO is going to work...Even more if it’s to capitalize on something people forgot that happened in 2002.

Exactly, just like Jennifer herself, I've blocked the Bennifer era out of my mind so don't recall any albums/movies/fashion from that period. Plus that song is cheesier and as unimaginative as any of Mariah Carey's 'greatest hits'.

I'm sad because I wanted something from Versace level, but they probably gave her millions and that's good.

Meisel probably went out because the campaign with Kate Moss. Hope the result is something like Moschino with Hanne Gaby by Juergen!
