WOW! Last pic in post #839 - She is a midget! If I didn't know her and just saw that pic I would have thought she was like 5ft tall:lol:

Okay, it's clear that the other women in that pic are just extremely tall. There are plenty of women without dwarfism who are a lot shorter than Jessica, including me, but they just never get a chance to be famous because short is seen as unattractive. So I think using that word is a little rude. Let's not forget that height is something a person has no control over.

^I didn't mean it in a mean way! My point was that all the women in the picture are so well proportioned that you can hardly tell just by looking if there are three regular girls and one short or 3 very tall ones and one average:) I know rationally that there are three very tall girls in the picture...

I guess I don't find being called a midget (used to describe short people, not dwarves) offensive, because I have never though that being short was bad... Veronica Lake was only 4-10-ish and she was fab:) I am not from the english speaking world, and I don't think we have the word "midget" in our language, but it is thrown around casually so much in US popular culture when describing short people, I assumed it was okay to use in a non-serious situation:( I meant no offence.

As someone who got fired from 1 of my previous jobs because said customer was mocking my height by calling me a "midget," and I stuck up for myself, I too do mind the term. It is offensive, and furthermore, is ableist language.

And, no, the word is NOT thrown around "casually" in US pop culture. Petite is the word used here to describe short people.

Yes, short people are awesome -- Veronica Lake, Kristen Chenoweth, Jessica, and many others - and yes you meant no offense -- but please pick your word choices more carefully next time. Better yet, rather than assuming you know what words are used in US culture to describe short people, use one from your own culture and tell us "this is word we use for people who aren't tall."

I like her dress in the pictures. It's very lowkey, but she's not promoting anything, so it makes sense it's not flashy. But I'm hoping for another red carpet event soon. I love seeing her gown choices!

I really meant no offence. I loved that 70s show growing up, and they used the word "midget" quite freely, so I never assumed it would automatically be bad. Maybe they were just trying to be historially correct, I don't know... But there is no reason to keep this discussion going, I got that I shouldn't use it the first time...

I once spent a good half hour trying to understand why this one word (not midget) was soooo offensive in the US when everyone said it in the UK without a fuss. It is all a bit confusing sometimes...

So let me say what I actually meant:

WOW! Last pic in post #839 - She looks so short in this context! If I didn't know her and just saw that pic I would have thought she was like 5ft tall.

(And if you think it is derogatory to call her short too, then that is your issue not mine...)

The US is not the UK, therefore how language is used in each country will be different, not one and the same Also, asking you respectfully to not use a gross, outdated word should not have warranted the snarky line "if you think the term short is offensive, that's your issue not mine." (This is the last thing I have to say on this as I would rather discuss Jessica's style.)

Back to Jessica's style: there is a lot of discussion in this topic recently that she's playing it safe these days, but was she ever really edgy? Her style has always come across to me, as modern classy. Every now and then she takes a risk, but for the most part, it seems to be classic shapes and styles.

I do love how her red hair makes even mundane dresses and outfits just pop though.

^I meant to add a :P at the end of that line. It is my instinct to repsond with humour when criticized (even when it is justified). Again, I meant no offence:) I am sorry if I made a mistake. You learn something new every day.

I actually think Jessica has been taking more and more risks. Those Saint Laurent looks she has been trying to "rock" lately were complete failures, but they were something new...

Just want to throw in my 10p as well. Based on experience I can assure both of you that Eizhowa's got quite an odd brand of humour/wit which, without an emoticon, can very easily be misconstrued. She's def not the snarky type. Also, I think she's pretty short/petite as well which makes this whole thing slightly comical, but I might be wrong :innocent:.

The Ralph Lauren dress isn't bad perse, but it's way better than what we've seen the past few times. Still maintain that she can do better than Ralph Lauren. I'm interested to see which Givenchy looks she'll be wearing, that's a pretty solid collection Tisci turned out.

I didn't mean to cause a problem, either! I understood from the beginning that you probably meant no offense, eizhowa--I simply thought that a comment from a short woman like myself would add a little needed perspective. All the images we as American women see show taller as being somehow better so we short women often feel like height shouldn't get any comment at all. I'm glad other cultures are more embracing of short as attractive-- I love hearing that! BTW: IMDB lists Jessica's height as 5'4" which is exactly average height for a woman. (Makes you think about how skewed the Hollywood presentation of women's height is, doesn't it?) And thanks for the support, wild roses (Hey, Vanessa!). I hope this whole discussion is constructive for all of us! :)

Jessica does have "modern classy" style, wild roses, and I too can't wait to see what her next event look is. And yes, her hair is her best accessory.

I'm not really mad about the Comic Con look. With the exception of Jennifer Lawrence and Kate Mara, the other women seemed to take this event so seriously. I was expecting more casual looks.

Seriously, the ladies look so overdressed compared to the boys. It's a geek convention, I wish they would inject a bit of fun into their looks.

Latest outfit seem like an attempt to look modern and edgy. Just like any type of art … all the pieces should flow and work harmoniously

 Drawstring on a jumpsuit. The worst invention ever. I'm still not quite used to this shorter cut, but here it looks ok.
