She may not have a dress just yet, but the man of the hour, or rather the "man of the longest day of the year," as the evening's host, MAC's John Demsey, put it, had some kind words for his supermodel friend during his speech. "I grew up when all the supermodels were on the covers, and in Nepal I used to see Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, Cindy Crawford, and everyone, and I was like, 'One day I will go to New York.' To see that happen to you, Joan"—he meant her new W magazine cover—"I was like, 'Damn, no she didn't.' But behind that success is years and years of perseverance."

I'm glad she's working for Givenchy again. I hope she can continue to be a regular for the brands she has done campaigns for as she first started to take off; I would hate for her to become a commodity that starts to fade as soon as a new ethnic face starts to get some attention (like what has happened with other v. prominent black models in the past few years)
