Angelic Ambitions

As a little girl, did you always know you were going to be an Angel?
I always wanted to be in the show, always craving it. It was a dream of mine, because it always looked so dreamy on TV. All the girls are so beautiful. So of course I wanted to be a part of that. Last year was my first year, so I was like, “Yay, finally I’m here!” And my mom and my family were so happy and thrilled, and when they found out they started screaming on the phone.

Did they all get together and watch it together? Or are any of them here?
One of my sisters, I’m still trying to get her in. It’s kind of hard, because this is like the show that everyone wants to see and everyone wants to be in.

When they found out I was doing interviews, every straight friend I’ve ever known called me to see if they could get in. I was like, “You guys are *******s, and you’re creepy right now.”
Yeah, I got that from, like, weird people, and they were like, “Oh, can I get your ticket?” And I was like, “I don’t really know you that well!”

Beauty and Fashion Advice From a Victoria's Secret Angel
When I arrived backstage at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show I could not be more excited. It was so chaotic and glamorous! My favorite part was meeting VS Angel Joan Smalls. The Puerto Rican runway model was the sweetest thing ever she couldn’t be more proud of her Latina roots if she tried. She even insisted on our interview being in Spanish. What is your go-to fashion piece right now?

A leather or tuxedo jacket. It’s so safe, but if you have the right measurements it is the ultimate piece. You can use it day and night. Also you can wear it formal or relaxed, but look sexy and not need a bulky jacket.

Any fashion advice for the guys?

Jeggings, they do not look good. They are tight and are sexy for a girl; it doesn’t read the same on guys, it just isn’t a good look.

What beauty tips would you offer to Latinas?

[Don’t] wear too much makeup! I love makeup, but sometimes it’s better to look translucent and see your skin instead of covering it and putting on a mask. Latin women are so beautiful to start with they don’t need to cover up so much. You should just highlight and accentuate what you have.

How is it being a Puerto Rican model in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show?

I am the only Puertoriquena representing for all of Puerto Rico. Orgullo! It’s good to represent such a beautiful country with such beautiful people. You know, we give a little Latin flavor to the runway so I’m very excited!
