Joan Smalls

Amazing! She is taking over. So happy for her such a hard worker!

Dumb question alert, but how would one get the Italian issue outside of Italy? I want to support so magazines don't feel like people don't want covers with woc on them.

I've never had trouble finding VI at Barnes and Nobles
But if you can't find it there you can always try online at magazinecafe

It's not cheap.....usually like $18-$20+ so I normally wait for a really good issue. the last time I bought an issue was Feb of last year when VI did that great editorial with all the top black models of the moment by Emma Summerton. But I will probably get this one to support her as well

:clap:Whoa!!! I honestly got teary eyed when I first heard the news.
Congrats to Joan and for many many more to come!!!

Here's hoping for an American Vogue cover next:flower:

^ That was almost 4 years ago when they created an issue with black models only.
But this issue is something completely different because they didn't pick her for "politically correct" reasons. Good on Joan!

Thankyou! I know about the black issue but I thought for sure that there would have been maybe 1 or 2 covers since with Naomi or Liya etc... This is HUGE! In that case an even bigger congratulations are in order :)

while I'm happy for her...I just..I dunno it's still "Ethnic Themed".
No, it isn't. If she were a white woman, that makeup would be considered "haute couture" and, in fact, that makeup wouldn't look out of place AT ALL in a Dior HC show. If you're looking at it and seeing ethnic/cultural connotations, I'd wager that has less to do with the editorial and more to do with you.

Have you seen the rest of the pics from this editorial? The other models are white, and there are still ethnic/cultural connotations. Daphne Groeneveld is styled after this:

And Daphne's holding a can a Colt 45, and they added extra bronzer to her face.

Don't get me wrong, Joan looks great on the cover, and it's about time she got one from Vogue. And I'm not even commenting on whatever it says/doesn't say that she's the cover model for this particular editorial. But to say there are no ethnic connotations to the edit when there clearly are, is choosing not to see something that the creators of the edit are intentionally putting out there.

Anywho, congrats to Joan on the cover! May this be the first of many!
