Bowie to replace injured Galliano at CFDA
NEW YORK: Thursday, June 02, 2005
As The Daily first told you, John Galliano, who was set to present Kate Moss with her fashion influence award at Monday night’s CFDA gala, has had to bow out due to an injury he sustained at home. According to Christian Dior’s worldwide communications director, the flamboyant designer was cut in several places on his body when a glass door shattered.
Moss will instead be fêted by a not-so-bad alternative presenter: David Bowie. But The Daily hears that Moss will remain faithful to her chum, Galliano, by wearing Dior to the gala. In addition, Liev Schreiber will present the Menswear Designer of the Year award and Anderson Cooper, the Lifetime Achievement Award to Diane von Furstenberg, proving that perhaps these fashion-forward men will steal some of the style spotlight come June 6.
And as for the women of fashion, The Daily has learned that Behnaz Sarafpour—nominated for Swarovski’s Perry Ellis Award for Emerging Talent in womenswear—will be attending the star-studded awards gala with not one, but two, lovely ladies at either side: Elite model Amanda Hearst and actress Claire Danes, who’s known to be one of Zac Posen’s muses. Also look for Bernadette Peters, who is expected to wear a short black cocktail dress by Donna Karan as she arrives with CFDA president Stan Herman.
And while she may not be receiving any awards for her style—yet—Glenda Bailey will kick things off Harper’s Bazaar-style when she hosts a bash this Sunday night for her good friend, Lanvin designer and CFDA International Award recipient, Alber Elbaz, at the 6,000 square foot nightclub, Show. With its three levels, accommodations for 500, and mix of decor influences from the Victorian era, 19th-century Paris, Weimar Germany cabarets, and American vaudeville, it’s the perfect setting for the lovable, huggable Elbaz and his number one fan.
