I found his opinion about America quite right, I think it is good that people start to question America. What bothers me is that he kind of went and apologized for it. I think that is kind of hypocrite, even though that wasn't what I meant in my last post.
I meant that he has become quite a bit like other celebrities...he's always talking about his family, less and less about his actual work (and at the same time he says he wants to do interesting work and that he wants to be private about his private life. Plus nobody even doubts that he might not be as good father as he says he is. They do doubt Kate Moss, but never Johnny Depp). There are so many interviews where the topic seems to be his newfound happiness and his kids, and the upcoming film is just worth a couple of questions. He still keeps up the rebel-image, but sounds like every other LA celeb. His films have become more and more mainstream, I agree that he is a great, great actor, but come on, two sequels for POTC?? CATCF was another "big" film, Finding Neverland was a relatively small British film but the Miramax people made it a big Oscar-hunt. Nowadays, when I hear he's taking on some project, my reaction isn't "oh, that is going to be great!" it is "how much money is he going to make with that", the films lack originality. The "smaller" films he does are still great, but the other projects he takes are just plain Hollywood blockbusters. He's the most bankable (or one of them) star, he has his face on a cereal box (he used to say that would happen in his worst nightmares), he acts with people like Orlando Bloom. I can't quite define it, but he has become a "blockbuster boy". His projects used to be interesting, nowadays it is just glitz and a wacky character. He doesn't seem to be doing indie or anything like that anymore, I can't imagine him taking a project like Dead Man or LA without a Map anymore. Just something safe, which will earn him an Oscar nomination and a lot of media coverage. And people who admire his looks of course.
