Johnny Depp

It's just how everyone jumps on the idea and is so quick to say that they don't think it could ever possibley be true. Heaven forbid.

It's a sore spot I guess.

Hmm...Do you know anything about Rum Diaries? Who's directing it, and who are the actors? I read the book some years ago, and liked it. It could work as a film, and the other HST film Depp was in was incredible...I hope this isn't going to be a big budget hollabaloo?

It's sad how he's quite a bit of an "OMG HE"S SOO HAWT" fanbase who've only just seen him in Pirates. I prefer his older work - Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Arizona Dream, What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Edward Scissorhands..

It's far from sad  How do you know people have only seen him in Pirates? People just love the character of Captain Jack Sparrow, it doesn't mean they have no knowledge or appreciation of his previous work! If anything his role in Pirates will encourage them to check out his older films. I didn't know an indier than thou attitude came to actors as well as music ;)

Though I do love him in Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas...such a mad film, it is really true to the book thanks to Terry Gilliam. Hunter S Thompson is a legend.

I believe the script is being written a the moment, so hopfully it will get made!

I'll be so glad after the both sequels for POTC are out --- then he *hopefully* isn't such a blockbuster name anymore, and starts doing smaller productions, which don't attract such media/teenager crowd...Even though I do love the character of Sparrow, and will be going to see the first sequel at least, I'll be happier if he goes back to independent/smaller films. In the last couple of years, when he has enjoyed the success of POTC, all the big films he's done have been let-downs (is that a term?)...POTC was, as a film, total crap, and both of the new Burton films just didn't have the old magic...But then again I really liked the smaller films, Libertine and Secret Window. I guess you could say I liked Finding Neverland too, though it was a bit overly sentimental at some points.

I wish that his "fans", meaning the "OMG he's soooo hot1111xX"-crowd would realise that is the exact opposite of what Depp is trying to do...

lol that doesn't really look like him since its dark, but I agree lol if that's the only contact I'd ever get with Johnny I'd take it! lol

OT but since the Rum Diary was mentioned in here earlier, IMDB updated yesterday and says the movie will be shot after Johnny finishes Pirates, which I imagine to be in August/September?? IMDb is often wrong, but since Josh Hartnett (who's going to be in the movie as well) said in a recent interview the script is being written right now I think it'd be pretty accurate for them them to shoot after Pirates.

I just have to state that he is so freaking hot that I would go to the movies to watch him boil an egg for 2 hours.

I adored him in Don Juan DeMarco. I thought that movie was hysterical. I also loved Benny and Joon. I do have a thing for pirates though, so I loved him in the Pirates movie. I'd also love to lick him like an icecream cone!

It looks like his hat and something he'd wear, but that's about all I can make out. I wouldn't put it past our boy though. :winkiss:

I am not too fond of the pirates film but I love Arizona dream (the music is also great: Goran Bregovic and Iggy Pop  ). It must be a european thing as I have heard that this film is not really popular in the States. I'd love to see him in another Kusturica movie!!!

Arizona Dream is definetily one of his best early films, it is a wonderful film. After I saw it I knew why I like films in general so much, it's a very powerful film. Kusturica is a great director and the cast was right, so many talented people in a same film is an achievement.

I think it is liked in America by the people who don't prefer the blockbuster-type romantic comedies, it just didn't get enough release and publicity because the American film indrusty does not like auteur-films, they just want to make as much money as they can with films that follow a very conservative set of rules...Not to say that it isn't that way in Europe, here in Finland blockbusters are taking space in the movie theaters aswell...But in general Hollywood is getting to be just a place that produces just crap. Compared to European films, American films don't stand a chance these days, which is sad.

Maybe Americans sort of...don't get it so well? I don't know, because I don't know too many Americans, and I do know there are lots of smart people too.

But I think I like small films more, it doesn't really bother me that people don't know this film. Too much attention spoils everything.

Sorry I wasn't trying to be disrespectful of him. I truly admire his career and the risks that he takes with his roles. I think that he is a highly underappreciated actor and one of the greates talents we have today. I also happen to think that he is mega hot!

What did you think of "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" ? Many critics have said it is too messy etc, and does not follow the book's idea etc...And that the actors are just on acid themselves...

I've never thought it like this, I think it is one of the funniest films ever made. I can't seem to find any faults from it, it's just highly entertaining and you can watch it over and over again. To me it is a personal classic.

I've also read the book. I was surprised how literally the film was based on it...Maybe at some points the book was far more profound, speaking about the backlash of the Sixties and everything surrounding that. The film I think was more about the American Dream and acid and being as high as a kite, and the few "serious" sequences seemed a bit unnatural to it.But then on the other hand, what does it matter, if the film does do right for the book and is great?

What do you think? I've also noticed that some critics have now, about 9 years later, started to regard it as a good film...I find that funny.

Well I've only seen it once and that was a while ago, but I remember laughing a lot and thinking it was good. What I've noticed about almost all of Johnny's "drug movies" (at least for me) I always start off thinking "damn I want to try that" but by the end he's made you feel so miserable for his character you think "never mind."

I remember Benico throwing up in the toliet and the comment about bat country had me dying.

I loved this movie!:woot: But that has for a large part to do with the fact that I like to watch Johnny Depp but I'm a huge Benicio del Toro fan. Seeing these two characters in this crazy movie was just great. I haven't read the book but I really liked the humour and style of the film.
I watched it with my boyfriend, he tought it sucked. He's always saying I like the "weird" films, he uses "F&L in LA" as example. :p

I know that "you like weird films"- reaction, it is annoying...I understand people have different tastes, but the ones who comment that mine's "weird" usually like to watch blockbusters and pointless, stupid films usually starring either Meg Ryan or Arnold Schwarzenegger...which never make you think or wonder or anything like that. My friend used to get comments like "you're scary" because she likes cruel, violent films...they thought she was going to be the next Charles Manson.

And Benicio is a great actor! They should do another film together.

This happens to me with almost every drug film...Especially many of Depp's are kind of...pro drug I think. The worst thing is that I usually don't get the "never mind" at the end...
