Johnny Depp

What are your favourite Depp-films? What kind of a fim would like to see him doing in the future, what kind of a role? Be free to use your imagination ;) I remember reading French Premiere, where some indie-film makers were asked what kind of a role would they want Depp to do in the future...Many of them said either a prostitute or a transvestite.

Btw, I found these two short clips of Before Night Falls...Sorry if they have been posted...

I have seen all of his movies, and he is in fact a great actor..The best of his generation.

I would love to see him in a verrrryyy dramatic movie..Not my kind of movie, but it would be interesing,

I really love him in Edward Scissorhands, What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Sleepy Hollow, Chocolat (Sooooo hot) ,Don Juan DeMarco, Pirates and Finding Neverland...ohhh and Cry-Baby too...! I still need to buy Cry-Baby, I have the rest of my faves but not that one.
He was also really good in Donnie Brasco but I dunno those mob movies aren't really my thing, good movie but I couldn't see myself watching it many many times over the years...
too many? hehe sorry I can't choose, he's just amazing!

edited: omg, I can't believe I forgot about Ed Wood, he's great in that one to, hilarious movie too!

I'd have a hard time picking my favorite Johnny Depp movies. Edward Scissorhands is definitely one. I also really liked him in Ed Wood and What's Eating Gilbert Grape and I adored Jack Sparrow--he's just brilliant in all his roles so it's hard to pick. Chocolat, Finding Neverland, DeMarco, Benny & Joon, Cry Baby... sh*t... I can't pick!

Thank you so much for the clips from Before Night Falls! I've wanted to see that movie for ages and I have no money right now so that was a real treat. :buzz:

He was really good in Before Night Falls :D he played two really good roles!!

^Have you seen it? Tell me more please! I've been interested about it for so long, but they don't sell it here and I have problems with buying stuff from Amazon.

I've seen all Depp's films starting from Cry-Baby (except Before Night Falls,Cannes Man and The Source) and A Nightmare from Elm Street and Platoon from the 80's films. You're right, it is very difficult to pick favourites...And there's many films where Depp is superb but which are mediocre plot/direction wise (From Hell for example). I'd pick Ed Wood, Sleepy Hollow, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Secret Window, Dead Man, The Libertine and Arizona Dream. Acting wise POTC is amazing for him, but I don't like it as a film.

You've seen all except those!? Wow! I've seen most of Johnny's movies, except for Private Resort, The source, Cannes Man (which I rented but then didn't get around to watchin), Freddy's Dead, the Brave , never saw Deep See 3D (he only does the narration, but still ), dead man  and that french movie...

Before Night Falls is a good movie about a homosexual Cuban poet who is the main character (played by Javier Bardem, who was excellent), and the main character Reinaldo lands himself in jail (I can't remember if it was cause he was gay or not, I think that was it) which is where Johnny comes in, he plays two different characters in the movie, it was a little bit confusing at first because I didn't realize the characters weren't the same person so I got a bit lost at first lol anyway Johnny plays a really hot cross dresser named Bon Bon and then he also plays the Lieutenant at the jail. He was great in both the roles! The movie is good, its very political because Reinaldo is stuck in communist Cuba where they are against gay people. There is some light hearted stuff in it too though :)

I just have to state that he is so freaking hot that I would go to the movies to watch him boil an egg for 2 hours.

I adored him in Don Juan DeMarco. I thought that movie was hysterical. I also loved Benny and Joon. I do have a thing for pirates though, so I loved him in the Pirates movie. I'd also love to lick him like an icecream cone!

Thanks for telling about the film! Seems good.

I haven't seen Deep Sea either.

I have never seen "the man who cried": is it good?

I don't think Man Who Cried is that good...It tries to be very deep, but I found it boring. It's been a long time I saw it though...Cate Blanchett is good, as is John Turturro. Depp is good but not spectacular.

Glad to help you! I thought I should try and watch it some day again...rent it or something...then I can give you my updated review.

I didn't like Dead Man that much or The Man Who Cried--though the later was slightly better just because I understood it at least.

Holy crap how could I forget The Libertine?! That was probably his best work recently at least. I mean, damn. Towards the end? Ouch...

Yes, it was painful to watch! I like that he didn't do that role like somebody else less talented would have...People like Rochester are usually portraited to live a bit glamoured alcoholic life and then they get a little pale and oops, die of syphilis, very clean and neat. Depp's role went far beoynd that...I don't think I have seen anybody playing a sick/nihilistic character that well in years.

i adored "dead man"..but only after the third time i've seen it.it's hard to understand at first.it was a great movie and don't get me started on the music, neil young did a brilliant job with it.amazing!
"the man who cried" was dissapointing i agree with WhiteLinen.
same goes for "arizona dream".

I love films that take time to understand, like Dead Man. I also like films that don't basically have a plot or are 'weird'.

Jarmusch is a great director.
