Jon Stewart to Host Oscars*Update*Mixed Reviews for Oscar Performance

^ YES!!!

I have never laughed so hard for ANY awards show, let alone the Oscars.

"Steven Speildberg is here. He's nominated for Munich..... and he also did Schindler's List. I think I speak for every Jew when I say, I can't wait to see what happens to us next!"

Had I been in the audience my mascara would have been running down my cheek, because I'd been laughing so hard. But then again, most celebrities in the audience were extermely nervous.

It was a good joke...

To be honest though, not winning an Oscar places you in a camp with Kubrick, Fellini, Altman, Hitchcock, Bergman, Orson Welles and Scorsese. Winning places you with who? Steven Spielberg...yeuch...

I found the whole show dull! Ya some jokes were good, but I could point them out on one hand.

He got significantly better as the night went on and he relaxed and started improvising. But overall, I think he was awful, the whole thing was boring as hell.

I love Jon Stewart, but Jake Gyllenhaal and George Clooney made me laugh so much harder with their funny reaction faces.

^ Jake cracked me up.

I think Jon was pretty good. Of course, I appreciate that kind of dry, sarcastic humor... so I felt him to be pretty funny. And the Three 6 Mafia thang... good stuff.

What can I say? He has my kind of humour, so I thought he was a genius!:smartass: B)

That Spielberg joke was a masterpiece!

The entire telecast was dull. dead as a door knob. I'm not a big Jon Stewart fan in the first place but he was ok- not the best. Personally perfered Chris Rock. IMO, Billy Crystal or Steve Martin are better suited to this type of thing.

The audience reaction shots were so sad. Kinda felt bad for Jon. His ad-libs were the best though.

Queen Latifiah's reaction to 36's win was great...and Clooney:wub:

Jon Stewart was AWFUL just as I presumed. But what really infuriated me was George Clooney's masturbatory speech about how celebrities are curing AIDS and eliminating poverty. WHAT A WANKFEST! They're all such pompous bastards. (I do love Phillip Seymour Hoffman though:wink: )

Anyways I've officially lost all former respect for the Oscars now that 3 6 Mafia won.

I thought it was a widely accepted fact that the Academy is a mutual masturbation society + red carpets though...

 I agree! That's why I loved after they played that clip of all those social problems movies have dealt with in the past, Jon S. replied with "And none of those problems exist ANYMORE!". haha, or something like that. I think they cut to Jack Nicholson when he said that.:D

And when Clooney (although I do like him) was talking about giving that Oscar to Haddie M. (the first black winner) and how Hollywood is responsible blah blah blah. Yet I would say that 95% of the people at the Oscars are still to this day non-black. I mean c'mon.....
(I hope my comment doesn't come off wrong:unsure: )

This reminded me why I stopped watching Oscars years ago and switched allegiance to the fun, frivolous MTV movie awards. One entire night's sleep waster. Highlight of the night was George Clooney's dignified acceptance speech. John Stewart was competant: nothing more or less.

he was really good. not perfect, there were some low points but overall the best host that I can remember in recent years. given the chance again I think he could be even better

^I agree
He was good.. he did his job and that's how Jon Stewart's humour is, its not very out there but its still good. I agree that it took him a little while to get comfortable at first but he made me laught out loud quite a few times!

I honestly think it was the unwillingness of the crowd to loosen the hell up a little bit that dident allow it to be as good as it could have.

Anyway apparently this year they were trying to go back to the ''old hollywood glamour'' style...
HAH!!what a joke...!!!

I loved Clooney's acceptance speech for the part where he asks how to compare one performance with another unless you are all doing the same role. Something I've long thought!
