Josh Beech

Since today is Halloween everyone may not be exactly how they seem around town, but we love how people surpise with their awesome costumes and talents. In this case Josh Beech- along with being a modeling sensation- also has some major musical ability. Beech was the face of Galliano this past summer along with posing for Moschino and Hudson Jeans, where he modeled alongside rock offspring, Georgia May Jagger. We recently spoke to Josh about his modeling career and his band, Josh Beech and The Johns.

Music is clearly your first passion, but how did you end up modeling and what has made you continue working in the fashion world?
Yes music is definatley my passion, but I do really enjoy working in the fashion world as well. Fashion allows me to travel the world, a lot of the time to destinations music would not take me to plus I meet lots of interesting, rad people that I would probably have never met if I hadn’t worked in that industry.

As a singer you’re used to being on stage, but what are your nerves like when you get in front of the camera?
I think I am more comfortable when I have my guitar in my hands or my band behind me, but being in front of a camera is something I am definitely getting used to. I wouldnt say I get nervous; it just takes me a little bit longer to be myself, you know?

Any exciting news you can share about your current solo music projects and your band Josh Beech and The Johns?
Lots of news… We are currently finishing our european tour, which so far has been a huge success. I am actually doing this interview in the back of our tour van. You can look forward to hearing our debut album at the begining of next year and a new single and music video before Christmas. All updates apprear on our website, joshbeechmusic.com. We hope to tour the USA in March next year.

Is it challenging to balance your time between modeling and music?
I think it sometimes can be a challenge for my agency and band manager as sometimes work and music can get double booked. My agencies are so patient with me though, so that makes my life super easy. They are all really behind my music and are very supportive, if they are reading this: THANK YOU!

What’s your personal style like? Do you dress any differently for performances?
Nope for my performance I dress as ME. We are all from a punk background so we wear alot of vests/band T’s and jeans. You will occasionally see us in suits for big headline shows just because it’s fun!

Seems like you probably travel quite a bit, we’d love to know what’s on your playlist?
I travel all the time, I fly at least once or twice a week in peak times. My playlist is ptretty mixed there is everything from Thrice, Jonny Cash, Local Natives, The Chariot, Lower Than Atlantis, The Beatles, John Mayer, Poison The Well, Deftones, and Paul Simon to name a few.

Lastly, what advice do you have for aspiring models out there?
Just be yourself, whatever you think is cool, is cool!

We can’t wait til’ this modeling and music star tours the States. Until then, you can catch more of Josh Beech on MyFDB and his band’s website. For even more, follow him on Twitter @iamjoshbeech.

hmmmm not sure i think he has a cool look but sometimes he can come across as a bit of a arrogant guy

^Arrogant, really? I actually never had that impression of him when I first saw him, not at all. :/

YuTsai: Do you remember the day that you realized you wanted to be a musician?

Josh Beech: I dont think there was a specific day, its in my blood. I have always wanted to be a musician. As a kid i had toy guitars etc. One of my first memories was watching the blues brothers with my dad and then going through his draws to find ray bans to pretend to be them.

YT: I know you wrote your own music. Where do you draw your inspiration from?

JB: Inspiration for me comes from everyday life. I had a huge break up about a year and a half ago with my gf of 7 years. That brought out alot of emotion obvs, and inspired me a lot with my first Josh Beech and The Johns "she" ep.

YT: What is "post folk" to you? Please dont give me a wikipedia answer, I can look that up myself. LOL.

JB: I don't know what post folk is to be honest. Its a name a magazine gave us at the start of the year and it has kind of stuck. I think it might be because the first Josh Beech & The Johns stuff that came out was pretty folky and acoustic guitar driven and now its turned into epic ballads, played mainly on the electric guitar and the piano!

YT: I am sure every time you perform live, you get different energy and feedback from the audience. Do you recall when you GOT the best feedback. and why do you think it was. ( Your mum's living room does not count. )

JB: Milan december last year will always stick in my mind as an amazing gig with amazing feed back. The fans were going ****ing mental before we even went on stage and it was the first time we had played there. I finished the gig by crowd surfing out of the venue.

YT: You had told me your mum is your number 1 fan. Please tell me about her.. where is she from, who does she wear, and what is her favor meal.

JB: My Mum is the kindest, most caring loving person you will ever meet, she has been at pretty much every London gig i have ever played and i am sure she always will be. In my first bands as a teenager she loved the music so much that we practiced in her living room while she made us all food. She is from South London, like me. Her style is flawless and always has been. There is not a day that goes past that people don't comment on what she is wearing or how she looks.

YT: When did you start tagging yourself? what was the first tattoo you got? and when it will your last?

JB: My first Tattoo is my birth sign on my chest. it was my 17th birthday present from my mum. I don't know when i will stop getting tattooed but i do know i will never go on my face or neck.

YT: Tell me about the tattoo on your right arm. ( the picture of the man ) who is he? and why did you decided to have his picture on your arm?

JB: The man on the top of my right arm is Archie Taylor also known to me and my sisters as Grandad. He past away this summer and he was a huge part of my life. I spoke to him all the time, especially when travelling as he loved to know what i was doing. Whenever i was back in London he was the first person i would think about going to see. I dont have a great relationship with my father so my Grandad was like a father figure to me and has been very influential in the way i went to live my life. I cant speak to him anymore but now he is with me in every picture and he is constantly there on my arm to remind me how to live my life and not to get caught up in everything.

YT: Let's talk a bit about your modeling career. Do you enjoy modeling? what do you like about it or hate about it....

JB: I do enjoy modelling. Its a great way to travel and meet new people. I FEEL VERY LUCKY. I don't really hate anything about it. I have a job which is awesome!

YT: if there is only one song you get to perform for the rest of your music career. what song would that be? ( doesn't have to be your own ).

JB: I think it would be City and Colour "the girl". The lyrics mean a lot to me and it has a lot of good memories behind it.

YT: Twilight or Harry Potter? and why.....

JB: Harry Potter! his glasses are rad and Ron Weasley is a ****ing dude!

YT: Well DONE....JOSH.......... until next.

Good he has at least one good campaign per season. Desingers remember & like him.

Josh and his band, beyond great. The Just Cavalli full campaign, love him in it.

In Just Cavalli campaign he looks at his best, I have to say. I haven't been following his career closely lately, but at first glance looks like he needs no effort to get some good campaigns every season, even if modelling isn't his main focus right now. He is always top-notch guy.

I just had to make a gif of the kiss at the end

^Eeew, this looks like a bad attempt to take back time to 2008 with photoshop. They obviously tried too hard to make him and Cole look younger, Josh is barly reccognisable in some pics
