Jovovich Hawk for Mango

^In the US, the dresses are priced from $65 for the short jersey dresses to $165 for a long silk dress.

How funny that this is called the Rachel dress since that's my name and I just bought it (in the asphalt color). ^_^

I was shocked at the lack of press leading up to this collection. I'm a fashion editor in the Czech Republic and there was NO mention of this to the press before it launched! Luckily I happened by the store today and saw the window display.

I'm also curious about the comments here with quality/fit. All the Mango pieces that I own are comparable quality to much more expensive items. I won't vouch for their cotton tops and whatnot since those are naf at all the high street shops. Still, Mango's jeans fit me better than any other cheap line out there! I'm disappointed with thier normal line this spring/summer but it's the same everywhere... you could see it coming with the boring RTW shows last Sept. :innocent:

This dress is the only thing I've actually felt the urge to buy!

both of my items have shipped. i hope they arrive soon. i wonder what the interior tags on the garment will say. maybe they wont mention jovovich-hawk at all. i'm also surprised there hasnt been more hype about the collection as well.

i am very pleased that one of the dresses i bought is polyamide. it will make it much easier than silk to clean it!

MNG's vintage stylings take an unusual route to the mall

The cheap-chic line, a boutique favorite for years, will make its chain store debut at Mango.

AFTER just a few years, the fast fashion phenomenon has come down to a pretty predictable formula: Mass-market retailer hires cool designer, hypes the collaboration like mad but produces just a few pieces, and waits for the stampede. Proenza Schouler at Target. Viktor & Rolf at H&M. Roland Mouret at the Gap. All of those limited collections sold out in days, if not hours.

Now comes Jovovich-Hawk for MNG, making a comparatively stealth debut today in a store you probably haven't even heard of. It's worth buzzing about. The collection of vintage-inspired dresses and tailored pieces, designed by the L.A. duo of Milla Jovovich and Carmen Hawk, has been a boutique favorite since its debut nearly four years ago. Now the team is getting some mass-market exposure with Mango, the Barcelona-based cheap-chic chain that's on the verge of spreading like kudzu through the malls of America.

And yes, it's the same Jovovich who starred in films such as "Zoolander" and "Resident Evil." MNG by Mango has only recently entered the American market, but it's a massive retailer, with 995 stores in 89 countries. The first U.S. store opened in May at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa — a signal of the company's commitment to Southern California, and of taking on the other Spanish cheap-chic giant, Zara, by going head-to-head in many of the same malls. MNG's West Coast invasion advanced quickly with stores in Westfield shopping centers in Century City, Canoga Park and San Francisco. The Third Street Promenade flagship in Santa Monica is under construction.

Jovovich-Hawk for MNG is, naturally, a limited-edition collection of 12 dresses, each quite distinct, but united by a vintage sensibility. Sold in 12 U.S. stores, including all the California outlets, and online at http://www.mango.com , they cost from $55 for a mod mini to $145 for a tiered lace confection. Sure, most of the dresses are synthetics, but don't hold that against them. They are washable and silky, and amazingly indestructible.

One of the best pieces is a well-made, polyester jersey maxi dress that's a steal for $89. For the same price, you can pick up a fairly flimsy but stylish belted kimono dress that reflects the season's metallic and big-sleeve trends. Or a strappy, bead-edged, silk baby doll.

A $55 black-and-white, sleeveless knit mini recalls Mondrian prints and the '67 Jane Birkin, while a pink floral granny gown for $145 screams Woodstock (and "Cheap!" too, with flimsy lace for its straps and bodice).

Occasionally, the designers too literally sourced vintage prints, which gives some pieces the whiff of thrift store copies, not designer originals. Of course, no one's expecting them to last forever and become vintage classics themselves. Then again, with that polyester, they probably will.

i received my black kimono dress yesterday and am really surprised - i really love it! it is not as thin and flimsy as the website makes it seem; the fabric is a sort of stretch-y soft cotton-y matte fabric (almost like tencil in a strange way.) it fastens with a tie on one side, and with buttons on the other. (my only real quibble is with the buttons - i'm probably going to have to reinforce them before i go for future wearings.) the belt is long and really nice, with just the slightest sheen. i got a small and it seems true to size, but i think i could have even gotten a x-small. (i wear a 4-6 generally.) i wore it out today and have gotten some nice compliments on it. also, the little garment tag does read "jovovich-hawk for MNG" inside. there's also a gold "jovovich-hawk for mng" tag as well, and mine shipped with its own hanger.

overall, i'm pretty pleased with the purchase and quality. it is the sort of dress you can throw over jeans or leggings for day or wear with a sandal or heel for a dressy evening, much more versatile than it would seem. i love it!

i received my two dresses today. i am pleased with both.
i think the short purple carla dress made from modal will be perfect to wear this summer when it is hot.
the long rachel dress's material is nicer than i though. i will definitely have to take off at least 4 inches to wear it without it dragging on the ground. i will attempt to take pics later on. :flower:

i think its great that a european company such as mango has set up a distribution center in new jersey so they can ship to us! this is the right way to go about attaining american customers! now, if only uniqlo was the same way!

i would love to see pics lucy!

i don't think i'll be buying anything from this collection (or anywhere :p) because I've spent too much money in these last few months and I feel the need to save..

but i can live vicariously through you girls! :woot:

^ I want this dress! Damn, I wonder if my Mango has any of those dresses.

edit - just called, they do have them. I'll just have to try it on and see if it works for me. Hopefully it will, because it's gorgeous!

I think she is Lou Dillion? I guessed that from her mouth:blush:

The good thing about Jovovich-Hawk dresses are that they are made for everyone, no matter what size are you...
And that's not impossible if I say at Jovovich-Hawk, size 15 could be the new size 4 :)

I went to Mango today to buy a white tshirt cause they had this giant rack full of them and looked at some stuff. I haven't been there for more than a year and I can definetly tell there's been an improvement in quality. Mango used to be the cheaper, worse version of Zara but now i'd say is the same level but prices are still lower. I am very pleasantly suprised, bought a bunch of stuff. ;)

^^are jovovich hawk doing another collection for mango?
is that what you mean?

I hardly believe that, there was no press release about that and I think Mango is busy with their "Cruz collection" (which sucks imo)

yes the cruz collection was just bad, i saw it in stores and found nothing, really nothing, special about it. plus it didn't seem to sell that well...
