Interesting:
Talbots Inc. has turned to actress Julianne Moore to find the next famous face to represent the Hingham-based retailer.

Moore will appear in Talbots print ads in spring 2011 issues of national magazines, Talbots’ store windows and the company’s March catalog.

Moore’s arrival closely follows the company’s use of model Linda Evangelista in its marketing campaign this fall. Evangelista was photographed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, who are shooting Moore for the 2011 campaign. StyleList.com, a fashion website run by AOL, reported that the photo shoot was to take place by the end of this week.

Talbots, under the leadership of CEO Trudy Sullivan, has been trying to focus its efforts on achieving a younger, more modern look while holding on to many of the classic styles favored by the company’s traditional customers. In an e-mail, Talbots spokeswoman Julie Lorigan said Moore’s appearance will represent the latest sign of the brand’s transformation.

“Julianne Moore represents a timeless, ageless natural American beauty that this brand has always strived to symbolize,” Michael Smaldone, Talbots’ chief creative officer, said in a prepared statement. “She is a modern, beautiful woman who embodies confidence and strength. Our brand vision and platform is ‘Tradition Transformed,’ and Ms. Moore is just that to us.”

Janney Capital Markets analyst Adrienne Tennant wrote in a research report on Thursday that Moore will fit extremely well in Talbots’ new “fortyish” campaign.

Moore, who is 49, has at least a couple other connections to the Boston area. She received her bachelor’s degree from Boston University. She also recently played Nancy Donovan, a love interest (with an exaggerated Boston accent) of Alec Baldwin’s character Jack Donaghy on the TV show “30 Rock” who knew Donaghy from their days growing up in Massachusetts.
