Kıvanç Tatlıtuğ was born in Adana in southern Turkey. He is one of five children. His family sent him to Yenice Çağ Private High School where he excelled in basketball. His family later moved to Istanbul so his father could get medical treatment. In Istanbul, he joined the Ülkerspor sports club as a basketball player.
Tatlıtuğ was recruited by a modelling agency after his mother sent pictures of him. He won the "Best Model Of The World" modeling pageant in October 2001. Since then, he has worked as a professional model and actor.
He was dubbed "the Middle East's Brad Pitt" and was chosen the "sexiest Turkish man alive" by the Turkish daily Hürriyet in July 2009.
