Kate Moss - Beauty Icon
When it comes to beauty,
Kate Moss never has an off-day. Admit it; we’ve all tried to recreate her unique brand of rock chic cool – relaxed, fuss-free and undeniably sexy. That’s why we’ve crowned la Moss our
Beauty Icon this month, and are celebrating all things Kate with our pick of her best looks and iconic beauty moments. Kate Moss, we salute you...
Supermodel
Kate Moss was spotted at the tender age of 14 at JFK Airport, by the founder of Storm Model Management. Here she is fresh-faced and gorgeous on the 1994 catwalks of Anne Klein.
Although infamous for her waif-like figure, pioneering ‘heroin chic’ in the ‘90s, her wayward lifestyle and a love life that makes tabloids salivate, it should also be noted that Kate has appeared on the cover of over 300 magazines and is arguably the world’s most famous model. Not bad for a working-class gal from Croydon, South London eh?
Rock chic
Kate spawned a thousand copycats when she stepped out with her now signature tousled tresses and black-kohled eyes - single-handedly making 'rock chic' a beauty movement we all wanted to be part of
Low-maintenance
Despite her supermodel good looks and ever-young skin, Kate likes to keep her skincare regime simple. “I am quite low-maintenance when it comes to skin,’ she says. ‘I cleanse, tone and moisturise like everyone else.’ Kate cites
Dr Hauschka Rose Day Cream as her daily skincare essential
At her most glamorous
Kate says she feels at her most glamorous ‘when I get dressed up to go for dinner – that’s when I want to look as gorgeous as possible.’
Saying that, it doesn’t take much for Kate to go for glam; ‘I wear a lot of mascara, that’s what I do when... I want to cause an impact, but otherwise, maybe a bit of shine somewhere with some blusher... Cover-up, definitely cover-up’ she adds.
Hair icon
Kate’s mastered the sexy, bed-head style, and has made carefree, tousled tresses her signature look.
James Brown, Kate’s hairdresser and long-time friend, says ‘The secret to why Kate’s hair always looks so great is that she never looks like she tries too hard, she keeps it relaxed. Her hair never looks over-styled or like she’s used too much product.’
Model/rock chick
Kate toys with the boundaries between the model world and the rock world. Not only has she appeared in many ‘a music video, such as Primal Scream’s Kowalski, Sex with Strangers by Marianne Faithfull and I Just Don't Know What to do with Myself by the White Stripes - where she writhed and spun her way around a pole in her underwear - she’s also sung on tracks from Johnny Cash and Babyshambles, and was crowned Sexiest Woman at the 2007 NME Awards – a title usually reserved for women in music
London calling
When Rimmel London adopted Kate as brand ambassador, a match made in beauty heaven was born. A source at Rimmel London says ‘Kate Moss was the only spokesperson who could fill this role. She epitomises cool London values without defining beauty as impossible perfection. She socialised in London, attended cool music events, got invited to all the celebrity parties, and yet despite her glamorous lifestyle, consumers found her down to earth and likeable. She was a girl from Croydon who’d made it big. Her effortless style and cheeky personality lend the brand new, cool credentials.’
April 2005 saw the first airing of the infamous Rimmel London TV ad featuring a leather-clad Kate riding a motorbike through London to the sound of 'Another Cold Beer' by Steven Crayn - an iconic moment in beauty.
Kate, bottled
Kate only launched her first fragrance on the 1st September, but already it's reached the top of the celebrity perfume charts, knocking Katie Price off the top spot and selling out in shops in just one day.
The fragrance itself is seductive, sensual, yet strong and edgy. An eclectic mix of elegant and risqué – like the lady herself. Kate wanted the scent to have ‘a vintage English feel’. She says, ‘I tried to encompass everything that I feel about being feminine and a bit rock ‘n roll, a bit edgy and a bit light, a bit dark.’
