LONDON - “The waltzer was my absolute favorite as a kid,” said Kate Moss, referring to the classic carnival ride that involves lots of spinning around. “Up and down, round and round, and you scream if you want to go faster. It’s the best!”
Moss was in a jolly mood on Wednesday as she joined Laura Bailey, Avery and John Frieda, Camilla Al Fayed, and Bay Garnett at the launch of Stella McCartney’s third in-house collection of children’s wear at a town hall in north London.
The theme was British fairground, and mothers spent the afternoon chasing after children who hopped up and down on the bouncy castle, whizzed down a funnel slide, rode the pony, and consumed industrial quantities of cotton candy, popcorn and cake.
Moss, who was there with her daughter Lila Grace, raved about the line’s little cowboy boots. “They’re gorgeous,” she raved.
Meanwhile, McCartney spent the afternoon cuddling as many tots as she could. She said it’s been liberating to have the collection under her own roof after working a few seasons with Gap Kids. “Working with Gap was all part of the journey. Now, there are fewer limitations, and you get to be your own boss,” she said. “I hope these clothes let kids express themselves and enjoy being kids.”
She said that sometimes there's even an overlap between the children’s wear and her main lines. “Not much trickles up from the kids’ collection, but there is a little Linda shoe – named after my mother – and a kids’ one. And sometimes I can even manage to squeeze myself into the size 12 tea dresses – I love them so much.”
