A Naked Portrait of Kate Moss Sells For More Than £16,000 At Auction!
She’s one of the most photographed women in the world, and we all have our own favourite picture of Kate Moss, don’t we? The one with her wearing a feather head-dress on the cover of The Face aged 14, or the one of her at her 30th birthday with curly hair and wearing a star-spangled Seventies cape, or her beaming from ear-to-ear with husband Jamie Hince on her wedding day in her custom-made Galliano dress.
One Kate Moss superfan has put their money where mouth is, and bought this very raw and beautiful naked portrait of Kate. It was taken by photographer Albert Watson for German Vogue in her early days of modelling, back in January 1993. Wow. No makeup, no clothes, young Kate looks so beautiful and pure. The photographer himself said of the shoot; ‘I still think these are among the best pictures ever taken of her and she said so as well recently’.
Apparently the pic has rarity value because it is such a large print - 57in by 45in in fact. It sold yesterday at London auction house, Bonham’s for £16,000. The in-house photography specialist, Jocelyn Phillips, said its value lay in a combination of factors, including the kudos of owning a famous photographer’s original print. ‘Kate Moss is a contemporary icon and the photographer is a well-established name,’ she said. ‘Combine that with the size and limited edition nature of this lot and it all combines to make it interesting to collectors.’
We think it’s lovely, and will look great above the mystery buyer’s mantelpiece.
^ I think, it's her own project for Topshop.
