Kate Trades Her Mark
KATE TRADES HER MARK
KATE MOSS has officially become a brand. The supermodel, who has long been a style icon for her unique and original way of dressing, is ironically now about to stamp her logo upon thousands of mass-produced garments. Suddenly keen to keep her identity protected, Moss asked graphic designer and art director Peter Saville to create a Fifties-style typeface bearing her name. "From Kate's point of view, it's her graphic identity - it's a very nice bit of lettering. Logically, Kate and Storm Models realised there had to be some coherence between the Kate Moss logo and the Kate Moss brand," he told WWD. Saville, who has designed record sleeves and other images for major bands such as New Order and Joy Division since the Seventies, was impressed with how assertive Moss was during their first meeting. "We presented her with a dozen possibilities, and [she] agreed immediately on the best one. She was able to spot it for herself." The logo will appear on her TopShop designs and on her bottles of fragrance, which she will launch with Coty later in the year.
