KARL LAGERFELD is relaunching his fragrance category with two new signature scents and, as ever with the designer, it's a truly hands-on project.
"The men's scent is really 100 per cent what I'm using for the moment," Lagerfeld said, revealing that he made spur-of-the-moment decisions when it came to developing the project. "I don't believe in projects that come together too slowly; having too much time is very bad. It's like cooking: Eat it when it's hot."
The fragrances, a Karl Lagerfeld women's eau de parfum developed by Serge Majoullier and Christine Nagel and a men's eau de toilette by Christophe Hérault, are launching in Harrods this weekend, followed by Macy's in the United States next week. Lagerfeld's first British store opens on March 13 on London's Regent Street, and the fragrances (the first since the now-discontinued Karleidoscope) look set to further expand his world domination.
The women's scent includes notes of lemon, peach, rose and magnolia and is represented in the campaign by Kati Nescher, and the latter includes lavender, mandarin zest, apple and violet leaves, and is fronted by Baptiste Giabiconi.
"When lavender is too basic, I don't like it," Lagerfeld told WWD. "Especially in the modern world, there has to be a kind of sophistication and not too much of a down-to-earth garden, flowery hot-house mood. That's from the past. There has to be a sophisticated twist in the perfume; if not, the old ones are better. The important thing with a perfume is to be new when it comes out and [then] turn into a classic in your bathroom."
Available at Harrods from March 9.
