Katy Perry is engaged to British funnyman Russell Brand, her rep confirms to JustJared.com.

Katy, 25, and Russell, 34, got engaged on New Year’s Eve in India, where he proposed to her in a tent at the foot of a mountain.

After the engagement, Russell was quoted by UK’s The Sun as texting, “It’s true. Much love.”

Earlier today, Katy, who is on Glamour’s latest cover, tweeted, “So when do I start walking the streets naked singing that Alanis [Morrisette] song?”

Although the engagement may have seemed sudden, Russell Brand planned every detail of his proposal to girlfriend, Katy Perry.

The funnyman popped the question in a romantic ceremony at The Taj Rambagh Palace in Jaipur, the hotel in which the couple were staying.

On the afternoon of New Year's Eve, Russell took Katy to buy a $1,000 traditional Indian dress to wear for the night.

"He had organized a special dining experience," said a worker at the hotel. "We set a table in a garden with candles everywhere. They arrived in a horse and carriage with a glass of champagne and we served them dinner."

"At midnight they enjoyed fireworks while sitting on an elephant, which Mr Brand specially requested. Then they were taken to the Mughal Garden - which was decorated by flowers and candlelight," the source continued. "Mr Brand had given his butler the diamond ring to hide among the flowers. Miss Perry found it, he proposed, and she immediately said 'Yes'. After that they requested 45 minutes' privacy. They looked like they were beautifully in love."

The two have wasted no time in planning their wedding. Russell has already asked his manager Nik Linnen to be his best man and start early on preparing his speech. Many suspect that the blessed day will happen in the next six months.

Either we're reading too much between the Tweets, or the 25-year-old "Kiss the Girl" singer is sprinkling clues she's having a baby with new fiancé Russell Brand.

It started with her Jan. 1 message: "Let me tell you 2010 is BUMPIN!" Then on Friday, Perry wrote, "Hey @rustyrockets" – Brand's Twitter name – "i heard ur prego-ed." She adds, "I WANT IN AND OUT," a Southern California hamburger chain, before telling Brand, "I love you … (awwwww barf!)."

Bump, prego, cravings, barf? It was all very cryptic, but then it was only a few days ago that Perry made oblique song lyric references on Twitter – before Brand came out and confirmed they were engaged on New Year's Eve.

Katy Perry: Divorce from Russell Brand!

Katy Perry and Russell Brand are getting a divorce after 14 months of marriage, his rep confirms to JustJared.com.

“Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage,” the comedian said in a statement. “I’ll always adore her and I know we’ll remain friends.”



Divorce papers were filed in Los Angeles, where Russell cited “irreconcilable differences.” Rumors of a split surfaced earlier this month when both Russell, 36, and Katy, 27, were both spotted without their wedding rings.

The couple married in India in October 2010.
