The Last Movie You Saw?

omg I had not thought about that movie in so long! can’t remember what it was about but I do remember it being fun!

I hadn't watched it in over 17 years (watched it the first time because I had such a huge crush on Diego Luna lol I think I still have it) so it was like a rediscovery and for a few days after, I was possessed by the urge to say 'guey' even though I'm 0 percent Mexican

The music in this film never fails to scare the crap out of me, yet it is what makes it as terrifying as it is. I've watched horror films since I was a child, so I am not one to be easily scared, yet this one still does, besides Rec (the original Spanish film).

I never noticed how freaky the score was in The Omen until I re-watched it last week! The Exorcist gets a lot of credit for a creepy score, but come on... inverting Hail Mary and making it about devil-worshippers? 😱

Unrelated, I watched the Sweet Bobby documentary on Netflix last night and I'm not sure why I did. I listened to the podcast around this time last year and I just find the entire story with Kirat being in a "relationship" with "Bobby" for 10 years to be so absurd. I really feel like something is being hidden from us with regards to this story. It makes NO sense.

Quadrophenia (1979) absolutely fantastic, 10/10 would recommend (the costumes alone would make it worth it for any TFSer but even beyond those it's genuinely a great movie)

Practical Magic (1998), rewatched it for the first time in over 20 years and I get why the kids on tiktok like it, it's a silly witch romcom but Sandra and Nicole really do have believable sister chemistry and the costumes are great - something I didn't quite appreciate in 1998 but that 90s boho-exotica flavour of witchy really does stand out now.

Did a double bill of CONCLAVE and ANORA over the weekend. Loved Mikey Madison in ANORA. Get that Chanel contract and Oscar nomination (win??) girl! The actual movie wasn’t bad but the raves are… overstating things. CONCLAVE was a hoot and I loved it. Ralph Fiennes is just the one and only.

Saw Nosferatu (1922) with a live organ accompaniment! That was really fun lol and the music did get quite intense at times

The last movies I watched and really enjoyed were Book Club (2018) and Book Club : The Next Chapter (2023). I loved the first one so I was expecting to be let down by the second one but I wasn't. I loved it even more.

It takes place in Italy so the scenery is stunning. It's colorful, the clothes are beautiful, the music is nice, the storylines are heartwarming. It's just a really fun atmosphere.

I love the pairing Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen and Mary Steenburgen together. They really work well as a group of lifelong friends. They have great chemistry.

Those two movies are like an invitation to enjoy life and make the most of it. Such a breath of fresh air from all the action movies, the thrillers, the true crimes and the heavy dramas. It really undermined my appreciation for manly movies that look dreary, that don't have great fashion and whose storylines are depressing. I just loved seeing those older women having fun while looking fabulous.

Also watched the documentary on Martha Stewart on Netflix and although I found it fascinating, I didn't really enjoy the overall feel of it. It was a bit sad and depressing. They didn't communicate at all the uplifting and aspirational feel of her work. They made her out to be a trailblazing woman but also a tragic and nasty character. Her friends kept calling her a b*tch. None of them spoke on camera. So much time is spent on her trial. The show she had for a very long time is glossed over and categorized as a failure. The part about her divorce is very intense. Not a lot of positive stuff. I can understand why she's not very pleased with it. Any of her interviews is a lot more pleasant to watch and listen to.

I watched HERETIC with Hugh Grant last weekend. It was ok.

I also watched the Martha Stewart doc, Martha. It felt very shallow and a touch mean but I know it has reintroduced Martha to plenty of people and many people had a very positive, pro-Martha takeaway. So that's good. I never knew or had forgotten it was the infamous James Comey that sent her to jail, he of "but her emails" fame.
