WITH ALL the hype surrounding "Twilight" stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, sometimes it's easy to forget they aren't the only rising starlets featured in the next installment of the saga. Ashley Greene and Kellan Lutz, better known as, Alice and Emmett Cullen, are slowly edging their way into the limelight.
Lutz, 24, and Greene, 22, play siblings in "The Twilight Saga: New Moon," which opens Friday. Emmett is the tough yet sensitive "protector" of the family, while Alice is an upbeat, pixie-like psychic. Although the actors' characters aren't the main feature of "New Moon" (Bella and Jacob take center stage in this sequel), Lutz and Greene have built a dedicated fan base.
"Twilight" was Greene's first major movie role while Lutz has had parts in films such as "Accepted" and "Prom Night." Both will appear in the upcoming film "Warrior."
We recently caught up with the stars at the Ritz-Carlton in San Francisco and talked to them about the film's new director, teenage romance and whether they're Team Edward or Team Jacob.
Q: So you guys just wrapped up shooting for "Eclipse" and "New Moon" comes out Nov. 20. The past couple of months must have been kind of crazy for you.
Ashley: It's been kind of a whirlwind for all of us. The first one came out and then we were doing press. And then we filmed the second one, and then some more press, and we just wrapped the third,
and we're doing press for the second. Basically we're in this "Twilight" bubble right now, but it's really fun. We are all like a family, and we all get along. We all get to travel with each other, so it's fun.
Q: How was working with new director Chris Weitz?
Kellan: Chris Weitz was amazing — such a great, easygoing director. He was an actor before a director, so he knows how it goes and how to relate to actors. He had everything so well

organized and so chill, and I think it really starts from the top and rolls down. When the director has all his stuff together, it kinda makes our jobs easy.
Q: Do you feel any pressure at all to play these characters a certain way since so many people have read the books, and they have a distinct image in their mind of what they should be like?
Ashley: I think there was a lot of pressure on the first one just because (the fans) could either love or hate us. By the second one, they kind of embraced us. With any character you want to portray it the best that you can, especially if it is a real person or something in a book. So we definitely want to make the fans happy and are trying to keep it as close to the book. But on the other hand, you really can't look at other people's opinions while making this film. It would just drive us all insane. It's really our jobs to create these characters.
Kellan: And I think it's crazy, too. I mean, once our names were out there as being cast as the characters, already judgment was cast. But the cool thing is, we had cheat sheets. We had the books to read.
Q: If you could play any other character within the saga, who would you play?
Kellan: Alice, probably. I like happy characters. Life's already too depressing, so to play a depressed soul, like Edward "... Originally my team was like, 'Read this cool script, you're going up for Edward.' I remember going back to my e-mail, seeing the role of Edward (and thinking it was) super weird. I was just like, 'Ah guys, I'm going to take a break.' And then I saw Emmett and I was like, 'Who's cast as Emmett?' and no one was, so ...
Ashley: I would either do probably Jane or Victoria, as I think Alice is such a positive good-hearted character, it would be nice to kind of play the opposite as well.
Q: So Ashley, your character Alice is a huge fashionista. If you could steal one item of clothing from her wardrobe in "New Moon," what would it be?
Ashley: I already stole the Ray Bans actually. There was this really great Michael Kors coat that I wore when I was in Italy that I wanted, and it's just so crazy that I didn't end up getting it.
Q: A lot of people have criticized Bella and Edward's relationship as shallow, old-fashioned and contrived. Do you guys think it's an accurate depiction of teenage romance?
Ashley: One, I don't understand how old-fashioned and shallow go together because I feel like old-fashioned relationships are so much richer and more in depth than what we have now. I mean, hopefully I think part of what is great about this film is that it is showing people that it is OK to wait, and it is OK to have boundaries. And if someone really cares about you, they'd go to the end of the world for you. Unfortunately, I don't think it is a realistic depiction of what relationships are in school now, but I think it is what it should be.
Q: You have anything to comment on that Kellan?
Kellan: Man, I wish we stayed old-fashioned. Marriages aren't lasting and divorce rates are so high "...
Q: Speaking of courtship, are you Team Edward or Team Jacob?
Ashley: Well, I started out Team Edward. After seeing "New Moon," I think if anyone else played the part, I wouldn't have shifted to Team Jacob, but Taylor Lautner did such a phenomenal job in the second one. You can't take your eyes of him. He had a lot to live up to because the chemistry between Edward and Bella sets high expectations. The chemistry between Jacob and Bella is different, but it's just as intriguing to watch. So I think there is going to be a shift from Team Edward to Team Jacob after (fans) see "New Moon."
Kellan: There definitely will be. And it's funny how many people are changing. I'm still Team Edward.
Ashley: That's because you and Taylor compete to see who has the biggest muscles!
Kellan: Yeah, yeah "... he's trying too hard. I definitely think when "Eclipse" comes out it's going to be interesting to see where it is going to be ... I think it will be back to 50-50.

All the single ladies, all the single ladies: The male stars of "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" were out and about in NYC tonight for the Cinema Society and D&G's special screening. While Robert Pattinson arrived just in time to duck in as the screening started, Kellan Lutz and Taylor Lautner were more punctual, and they made time to chat with us.
So let's get to it. Kellan Lutz/Emmett fans, listen up! The hunky star revealed what outfit he finds sexiest on a woman, and it's not what you'd ever expect:
StyleList: So, the Victoria's Secret fashion show is tonight...
Lutz: I know! I'm bummed!
StyleList: Aside from lingerie, what's the sexiest thing a woman can wear?
Lutz: My clothes.
StyleList: Are we talking a t-shirt, boxers, what specifically?
Lutz: Like a long business shirt, maybe just that if it covers enough. I like when girls wear like, my sweatpants, my Ugg shoes or something like that, and my tank tops, t-shirts.
So there you have it! Now, just in case boyish Taylor Lautner/Jacob is more your speed, here's what floats his boat:
StyleList: What do you look for in a girl?
Lautner: It's pretty simple. Somebody who can be themselves, not put on a show, and totally let loose.
Taylor Swift, we hope you're reading this!
Nikki Reed and Kristen Stewart skipped the screening and made an early exit to the after-party at The Box, where Alize provided cocktails called "Team Edward" and "Team Jacob."
