Lacoste Vs Ralph Lauren Polos

prince- i sooo forgot the oakleys~ i swear they're the #1 sunglasses here. Mine broke when I was on the dock the other day and the lenses popped into the water.

I wear a lacoste polo's about every other day, they just work with so much. But then I also am obessesed with the whole "nantucket, east coast, yatching, tennis, preppy look". I haven't tried the slim fit from Ralph, I love my Lacoste but I do wish they were a little longer. Are the Ralph ones longer or do they shrink also?
Oh I think Lacoste Polo's are the hottest thing a guy can wear, I don't know that whole preppy look for boys really does it for me, but they can't have the waspy attitude though...that will never be in style!

Right on. Lacoste all the way, though there is defiantely something I love about my slim fit black RL polo with purple pony. I have a question to pose, what about Le Tigre polos? What does everyone think of them?

I've been wearing both lacoste and RL polos my whole life and I think it depends on your body type which one looks better on you. The RL polos fit me better and are better constructed in my opinion, but my gf looks much better in lacoste than RL.

Basically lacoste polos tend to be very rigid which doesn't a lot of body types, they also tend to be short.

I prefer Lacoste! The croc evokes memories from younger days. I am so happy that Nordstrom's started carrying 'em but I remember when they were about $30-40 instead of $70 (I'm almost 36 :innocent: ).

Definitely a toss up. I always feel purely country club in a RL polo, but kind of vintage-chic in a Lacoste.

I live in a small town where people make comments like "Why do you have a alligator on your shirt?" so the whole trying-to-be-stylish thing w/ Lacoste is kind of a non-issue.

I definitely agree! I like them both for different reasons. I am from Connecticut so am familiar with Lacoste, but go to school in New Hampshire where Lacoste in basically non-existent. The big trend here is definitely the RL Polo and it is constantly growing. I definitely like the RL, but enjoying being different when wearing Lacoste.

I'm so sick of polo shirts...:dizzy:  But people are probably quite tired of my complaints about the preppy style, so I'll lay off a bit.

I find that polos can actually look moderately cute as long as they fit properly. I know so many people who wear polos that cling to their stomach fat and are too short, etc, which just looks sloppy and bad. I have seen a few people in my school pull them off, even though the look is too preppy for me, and it was all because of the fit.

I suggest that you try on both brands and see which fits you best. It seems like Lacoste is winning, though, so maybe there's something to that.

I'm right with you, although currently I own more RL ones than Lacoste, so I wear those more often.

Ralph ones are slightly longer - the back is actually shorter than the front, so the back is generally always covered.

GOD I love the preppy look on men. My SO is prep prep prep - he always does the khakis with the polos, and he's gone to private schools all of his life and is now at a big-name private east coast uni, so he's very much epitomizing it. I love it - it makes me grin. :)

Lacoste actually has some new polos right now which are very intriguing -

It's a sort of shimmery polo which is something new - at least, I haven't seen it before...

I LOVE the Lacoste alligator in general. It's so 80s retro and hott. My three fav pieces are my red beanie with huge alligator on it and white tennis chic t-shirt collar one with two red and baby blue stripes that my brother got for my b-day last year. He has such good taste! And the classic pink one, I had to go into the children's sizes (16) to get the proper tight 80s fit.

A lot of people wear Lacoste in Mass., but I definately see more Polo and such, especially on the Cape

Forgive me, but classic and preppy is Brooks Brothers, and I wear only Brooks polos, and I wear them all the time. I use them for business meetings with jeans or chinos (forgive the wrinkles below). Notice the wonderful Golden Fleece logo. I wore Lacoste back in the 60's and 70's, and then they turned to junky manufacturing and overexposure. Ralph makes a nice polo, but there's nothing like the real thing. Brooks literally defined the northeast prep school look, and their bag suits back in the 50's and 60's defined the Ivy League generation. President Kennedy wore Brooks suits.

Also, while I love Ralph's style, what Polo is about is adapting the British posh look of a certain fantasy time for the American shopper. He did it so well that actual American WASP prepsters who were in college in the late 70's had been indoctrinated into equating Polo with preppy.

Now everybody, take your pot shots!

yes, lacoste changed to below par manufacturers in the 80's cuz i think they sold the rights to a manufacturer in the US and everything went down hill from there.

the new lacoste shirts are exclusively made in portugal now and are very good quality.

incidentily in a wallstreet journal they tested 4 different polos -- BB, Gap, Polo, and Lacoste. put them through several normal wear sand washings. the lacoste shirt came out on top, but the Gap one did alsmot as well lol. the Polo did the worst
