Watch out New York, Karl’s a’coming to the Big Apple. Over the weekend, at the pre-Halloween bash he hosted in honor of Fendi, Lagerfeld confirmed to The Daily that he will not only stage his first fashion show for Lagerfeld Gallery in New York next February, but plans on showing the line in New York going forward.
“I’ve moved my entire Paris operation to New York,” he said, pointing out his new offices at 601 West 26th Street. “I like the idea of showing in New York and am excited.” While it remains unclear where he will stage his show—rumors have him scouting a space in the Meatpacking District and also checking out the Tents at Bryant Park—Alex de Betak is said to have been asked by Lagerfeld to produce his show. If that were to happen, it would mark the first time the two creative geniuses will have worked together. As for the Bryant Park notion, a 7th on Sixth employee noted that they would begin working on the schedule for February shows in the next few weeks and that nothing has been confirmed.
Karl Lagerfeld’s New York plans are crystallizing by the day. First he confirmed to The Daily his plan to present his fall/winter 2006 Lagerfeld Gallery collection show in New York. Now he’s confirmed a date and time. The Lagerfeld Gallery show will take place on Feb. 10 at 8pm. That choice of day and time ensures Lagerfeld the likelihood that he will close New York Fashion Week, thus joining the likes of Jennifer Lopez and Gwen Stefani, both of whom have held what seems to have become the most coveted spot the last two years. A location has not yet been announced.
