Laura Bailey

I hadn't checked this thread in a few weeks either! Thanks for all the gorgeous pics cosmocat, huge Karma for you :flower: :winkiss:
Love the pics of her walking with Luc in that cute coat with the leather buckles, and the floral dress and marni outfit

^Yes those are lovely. Hopefully we can find more candids, plus I'm sure she'll be out and about during London fashion week.

Just occured to me, you know how opaque black tights are being hailed as a trend this season, as well as being a classic? Laura has always seemed to know how good they look with a party dress. She's so great.

Laura has an article in the Sunday Times' Style magazine about dressing to please girls instead of men! I'll scan it if I get a chance.

^That would be lovely and thanks for the information. As I'm such a ridiculously huge Laura fan...here's the text, pictures would be great!

You're really going out in that

Sisters, if you ain’t doing it for yourselves, you should be, says Laura Bailey. But not dressing to impress your man can lead to only one thing

Either he’s away, or you’re fighting,” guessed one of my girlfriends, looking at what I was wearing. My “break-up” clothes are not the traditional sweatpants and baggy T-shirt, but rather an assortment of rainbow stripes, love-worn dresses, short skirts and naughty shoes. Anything that screams: “I’m not hiding, not scared, I’m still me.” They hark back to my single days, a little bit Edie Sedgwick, a little bit Courtney Love, and they absolutely deny relationships, children, nannies, cleaners, mortgages — in fact, any form of responsibility.

Boyfriend or no boyfriend, it’s always more fun dressing for the girls, not out of competition over dresses or boys, but because of the lack of inhibition when the possibility of sex or flirtation is removed. Women are far more likely to interpret “mistakes” as quirky individualism; they know that a long, nun-like dress may hint at exotic underwear beneath, that flamboyant cleavage could advertise heartbreak as much as wantonness, that sometimes we just throw on whatever’s lying on the floor and pray for low lighting, that life’s too short for blow-dries and manicures. I know it should probably be the other way round, but I’ll cherish the compliment of a woman over a man’s any day, and will always save a vintage treasure or shoe splurge to show off at a girlie dinner, rather than on a hot date.

My boyfriend visibly slumps when I appear in certain old favourites, leading me to the conclusion that his ideal girl is either a little Miss matchy-matchy Moneypenny in twinset and pearls or a glamour model in slashed Lycra and leather. Both are the antithesis of who I am. Let him dream. I never thought I’d hear the words “You’re not really going out in that?” post-teenagehood, but I hear them a lot these days. Of course, I ignore him and sometimes childishly wear the offending item to death to overstate the point — most recently when an admittedly well-worn pair of stripy Topshop leggings, with a hole in the knee that my son thinks the Very Hungry Caterpillar made, were criticised at the airport, then worn over or under absolutely everything that holiday.

I hear them when I wear one of my treasured old Ossie Clark dresses: “Don’t you ever go shopping?” Stubborn pride aside, I have been known to make the odd deal. I know to save my battles for the big issues, and it’s not as if I don’t have options in the closet.

Sometimes, subterfuge is called for. A beloved Chanel jacket was banned for making my arms look too skinny, so I smuggled it into the boot of the car and wore it out all night alone. It brought back memories of illicit additions to my school uniform, stuffed into my PE bag. I also have a tendency to sabotage a beautiful dress with trashy jewellery, or wear a vest and leggings underneath, as if I might strip off to jog home later. I removed said additions under duress recently, for a tête-à-tête at Harry’ s Bar, but by acquiescing so sweetly, I knew I was a foot ahead in the ensuing negotiations.

I’ve pretty much banned the straight men in my life from any fashion-related present-shopping, but to those with more optimistic wives or girlfriends, some advice: no underwear, unless it’s in consultation with a close girlfriend of the recipient; no pastel anything; nothing with any connection to your preferred football club; no jeans; no dresses; no shoes. Which basically leaves you with socks. Or expensive jewellery.

Gay best friends, however, are in a league of their own in the shopping department. Last week, everyone cooed over a new Balenciaga knit top I wore with my scruffiest jeans. “A birthday present from my best friend,” I said. “Didn’t she do well?” they said. She was a he. I have two men in my life I count on for advice on, well, everything, and neither of them will ever want to sleep with me. They are the only men I’d trust to buy me clothes or shoes, or to pack for me. I’d even let them pack my toiletries — I’d probably learn some beauty secrets in the process.

But it’s girls who really understand the language of clothes, that shopping or dressing up are games of fun and flirtation and sometimes therapy — and that you may not feel like doing either for months. They know the right dress can help you get over a bad day, or a bad man, even for just one night. I love my friends’ style, whether they’re in their pyjamas or their cocktail dresses, or a bit of both. The men who want a real-life version of those children’s doll books, where you flip pieces of cardboard body parts over and get a hint of stocking, a pair of stilettos, a pencil skirt and a Barbie face, should remember they could also end up with a policeman’s helmet, a football strip and a pair of slippers. They’re lucky they get to stick to a nice pair of cords and a white shirt. Imagine it the other way round — we’d never get out the front door.

So pretty^! I don't know how she can walk in those shoes though, I'd be on the floor every five mins! lol! thank you cosmocat, as always, lovely pics! :)

Just discovered this thread!:D

I really like Laura Bailey. I think she always manages to look effortlessly chic although she must take hours getting ready!

Laura to me is more of a style icon she dresses to what looks good on her instead of following trends. To be honest have we seen Laura trying to look "rock chck"? No unlike some she knows that this will not suit her therefore she shys away from it.

I would like to thank cosmocat for all the lovely photos:flower:

A few years back I remeber looking at an article of Lauras Flat. Very bohemian the kind of place that showed alot of her personality. Sadly I can not remember which mag the srtilcle came from but would love to see it again if anybody can find it.

^I think it's mentioned somewhere on this thread, possibly from Elle, but we don't have scans unfortunately. I bet she has great taste in interiors

Thanks as always for the lovely photos Cosmocat! I seem to love the cadids and catwalk show photos so much better than when they're all dolled up on the red carpet.
