Leggings

I love, love, LOVE the way Michael Kors used the leggings in his show. It doesnt look completely stolen from era gone by (ie: the 80s) but instead very chic, very new. I LOVE IT!- and this is coming from someone born (and who HATES) the 80s.

OK, now, kind of a stupid question: what's the difference between tights and leggings? Are tights just like stockings, and leggings are the footless, shorter ones like those used in Kors' show?

Would appreciate a clarification - thanks!!

Grayeyes, you go to MSU? So did I. Graduated last year. Anyway, that's besides the point: do you have any pictures of the ankle boot/leggings look? Everyone's raving about this look, but until I see it, and love it, I'm reluctant to invest in the shoes.

I went out last night, and half the girls there were sporting black leggings. It makes me want to shoot myself. I myself was wearing them, and I felt like such a fashion victim. I hate it when a trend just explodes and EVERY single person is wearing them. Same with skinny jeans.

I still wearing them I wont stop just because it's like become a 'trend' or whatever. I've been wearing them long before all the designers made them become 'fashionable' again. I wear whatever I want.

A fresh approach to layering begins with black footless dancer’s tights. The look gained momentum over the summer and became a full-fledged fashion force last month. Worn with dresses, skirts and blouses, and oversize shirts (sometimes topped by smaller jackets), the tights become a stem to billowing tops. As for the accompanying shoes, women are choosing heels.

This is my first post, and I'm sorry it has to be so negative, but really I can't stand this any more. Leggings are too hideous for words. ANYONE, no exceptions, who is proud of owning leggings, wears them and really believes they add to their outfit, or is considering buying a pair(DON'T) is a fashion victim of the worst kind. They make every outfit dowdy and sad.
This is the exact kind of thing that makes me hate trends--endorsement of something arbitrary and unflattering that makes everybody look like a fool. YOU DO NOT LOOK GOOD IN LEGGINGS.
Everybody will look back at this trend and see how stupid everybody looked wearing the same dumb*** pair of ugly.

I really like the NYTimes cover of the footless tights. Some of the women have very creatively put together their outfits. Combined with heel, it's a more grown up and sophisticated look, rather than the teeny-bopper style of the tights from summer. I might try out a pair myself.

 that woman's beaded necklace is huuuuuge. omg lol.

The cropped footless leggings are more suitable on the younger crowd.
The ankle length leggings can be quite sophisticated when done tastefully with a good jacket, waisted belt and fabulous heels. Like the lady with the white knee length coat, belt and chain bag in the NYTimes cover. The Asian lady with the belted black dress/coatdress looks good too.

It gets discomforting when the look becomes too contrived. Like when leggings are deliberately worn just to adopt the latest trend into one's current wardrobe. Personally I feel leggings under dresses and skirts is the ultimate epitome of the contrived look. This look should only be worn by teens who are on the path of fashion exploration for one's personal style.

I feel like there is an art to wearing leggings nowadays since so many people are wearing them...

I think it's a great look, as long as you do it properly. Otherwise, you may as well be wearing tracksuit and T-shirt as it so easy to look like you just grabbed the first thing in your wardrobe for ease. It's definitely better dressed up than casual, and I love the footless tights. They're so good for the layered look as they aren't bulky like jeans can be.

I will never ever forget in the eighties when I was stood behind a woman in a queue, and her leggings were very worn, and almost coming apart at the seam that goes up your backside. Yuck yuck yuck.

I think I've seen the legging look done well like, twice. Otherwise I think it just looks so fn trendy.

Tights are usually of nylon, sometimes cotton and footed or footless. Leggings are generally cotton or cotton/poly or cotton/nylon and have a wider waistband and is visible. Leggings are like fitness ankle yoga pants with elastic fitted ankle or mid calf length. Some however can be in nylon as I think Donna Karan brand is out now at Nordstrom.

in all those photos , all those woman would have looked much better with those leggings off and showing their skin , its very ugly to look at , i mean it is a trend of the moment but beyond 2008 , i dont see it have much of a life , i lived through the 80s , and trust they were hideous when they came out then and they are still hideous now.
